Being low on vit D will cause fatigue. Recovery from the infection can take several weeks, sometimes longer if the type of antibiotics is not suitable for the bacteria, and you need a course of a different type.

I had a chest infection in Nov last year (5th that year). Also found to be vitamin D deficient. I took 5 weeks off work. My Dr told me it will take 6-8 weeks to fully recover. Be kind to yourself and rest plenty. Hope you feel better soon.

May be get amoxcillian changed

I don't think they work as fast as other antibiotics I was on the amoxcillian for years and kept saying to the doctors they weren't working but wouldn't listen to me or my chest. Eventually after a lot of persuasion they changed them and they work so much better arranged for them to change for rescue pack as well. It might be worth asking for a change. My consultant did say that GPs do stick to certain ones. Hope your start to pick up soon

Chest infections clear but the symptoms can linger in for weeks afterwards, you need rest and lots of fluids. If your Vitamin D is low take a high supplement atleast 1000 units a day, that's 25ug, it's what I take in the autumn/winter months. Then summer time I take 400units (10ug) a day.

There are other abs that work better with a sticky chest infection. Clarithromycin is apparently the best as it actually kills the bacteria rather than ring fencing it, you can have 2 abs together. I currently take that and Amoxicillin at the same time and it's massively helped as I've just had bronchitis infection. Doxycycline is another commonly used. Perhaps go back to dr and ask about using another medication.

Drink tons of water and keep warm.

Hi. I have too just had chest infection and pleurisy. I had 2weeks of ammoxcil and symptoms not fully gone. Just had a week of doxycycline and feeling bit better now. I was very tired half way through. Lots of rest and plenty fluids. If you don't feel better when they are finished go back to docs. Take care.

Amoxicillin seems such a weak antibiotic. It never works for me.

Next time I get infection I am going to ask for something else as it takes me weeks to recover.

Hi, sorry to hear of your chest infection, amoxocillin is a starter antibiotic, when the phlepm starts to get to a yellowy colour the infections should be on the wain. You may need a dose of another antibiotic straight after to clear it thro'. Fatigue is part of the emphysema problem, unfortunately you may feel this ongoing.
