My dog Midge.

She used to be a bouncy dog

Within each leg a spring.

Always looking for a ball,

Or for a stick to bring.

But now the years have slowed her down,

But enthusiasm's still there.

She can't do what she used to do

But she doesn't seem to care.

She plays out in the garden

And friends take her for walks.

She's good at conversations,

She very nearly talks.

It's just she's gained a little weight

And now prefers her chair.

I bought a little staircase,

To help get up there.

We're growing old together.

Doing as best we can.

I'm sure she knows she's fortunate,

I certainly know I am.

Midge is only twelve but has some health problems. I nearly lost her a couple of years ago with pancreatitis.

Hi Don, little Midge looks just like my little dog Jack. He is so full of life and prances and trots about like a tiny little pony. Thanks for the poem mafe me smile.

So if little Midge is really 12 yrs old

for a little dog she is quite bold

to navigate that Amazon stair

and rest there on her favourite chair

Scruffy meanwhile has lost her bounce

and doesn't do the normal pounce

but says she i'm only seven

not ready for that stairway to heaven

so lucky us with four legged mates

our only duty is to fill their plates

And of course enjoy their company

without them where would we all be?
