I’m getting really concerned as I don’t seem to have seen Lilian226 posting for a while now. We used to p/m but it’s now two months since I heard from her. She had recently been diagnosed with another serious health condition requiring Dialysis. I really hope someone can put my mind at rest.

Hi Helen.

This is worrying. I looked back on her posts and she talked about going for dialysis three times a week. It could be just very overwhelming for her at the moment. Let's really hope Lilian is okay and just busy. *Hugs* xx 🍀

I really hope Lillian is ok, maybe it's like others have said she needs to get used to being on dialysis. Please let us know if you heat anything from her.

🙂 Bernadette xx

I will do Bernadette. Can’t help but feel very concerned but I realise the diagnosis & obviously the Dialysis must have knocked her (& her family) for six. I don’t want to intrude but would just like to know how she is. Xx

I hope you hear from her soon and she is ok.

Hi Helen, I don't know Lilian but do hope she is ok.

Dialysis 3 times a week I suspect will be very exhausting for her, the other days she will be resting. Hopefully she will find after time she will begin to feel more energetic when her treatments are reduced.

Hope you here from lilian real soon.

Lilian is a very down to earth sort of lady, and kind of took dialysis in her stride in an ok lets get on with it sort of manner, like others have said lets just hope that the regime being very time consuming takes precedence over nattering to us for the time being and that all is well, xx

I’m sure you are all right & hopefully we will hear from her soon. 😍 xx

Haemodialysis was my field for many years. For some people if you include traveling it can be a whole day gone. When first starting the prescription for the dialysis it needs to be monitored and adjusted and a target weight found. Obviously if you have COPD then it can make the process more complex as fluid can build up in the lungs between treatments. I suspect that Lilian is both tired and overwhelmed by the treatment and information about diet fluid balance etc. Hopefully she is giving herself time to adjust and resting.

in reply to Badbessie

I hope so too... she mentioned previously that they were investigating ways of her having Dialysis nearer to home so hopefully that materialised so that maybe she wouldn’t be quite so tired. Anyway, fingers crossed that she is doing well & that someone hears something soon.

I worked in a central unit and people could travel a 100 miles for dialysis, have 41/2 hours dialysis and then travel a 100 miles back. It is a long day! I have been out of it a few years now. In my time before you could go to a local unit you needed to be stable on dialysis for three months. Local units may not have emergency facilities if something goes wrong.

Thank you Helen and everyone else who has shown concern. You are all right the diagnosis was overwhelming, energy levels have dropped right down. There's so much to learn about kidney failure. I have now moved to Frome which is a lot nearer to me, a lovely unit and most of the nurses can't do enough for you. As Badbessie says, dialysis leaves you wiped out, but the next day I'm nearly as fit as a fiddle. It's not painful, just have to watch the blood pressure doesn't fall too much. My COPD has come second place to the dialysis, fortunately I haven't had any flare ups, don't know what will happen if I get pneumonia and I can't attend dialysis. On the whole, it is not too bad, we have a cup of tea and biscuits. I read most of your messages and hopefully, soon, I will have the energy to reply. 'all we can do is just carry on and do the best we can. Thank goodness for the NHS! Love Lilian xxxxxxx

So glad you're getting your dialysis a bit closer to home Lilian - it will certainly cut down on the stress. Hope you can stay infection-free, avoid all the coughers and splutterers if you can - above all don't overdo things on the "good" days. Thinking of you.
