My PIP results

Hi all :)

My transfer from DLA to PIP has been a bit of a curates egg of an experience. I wrote war and peace on the form, and submitted plenty of supporting evidence, so the result of that was that I didn't have to have the face to face assessment, I had one phone call from a nurse who asked a few straightforward questions. Other than that it was all done on the papers.

I got the decision last week - I got standard rate Daily Living, having missed enhanced rate by 1 point, and enhanced mobility. I'm a little disgruntled about missing the enhanced rate for both as I don't feel they quite took everything on board that I wrote on the form, but I could have expressed myself a bit better too, on looking over it again.

However, what has annoyed me, after having been at Stage 4 Bronchiectasis, PF, and COPD for over 11 years, and on oxygen for 10 years, is that I've gone from an indefinite award of DLA to a 22 month award of PIP. So I'm probably going to have the review again next year, with all the hassle that entails.

I really cannot decide whether to ask for a mandatory reconsideration, or whether to leave it until that review and see if I can't squeeze that extra point out of them. I haven't had to gild the lily at all, I really can't move from room to room without gasping for breathe, and I need a lot of help with stuff nowadays, so I think I deserve the enhanced rate daily living component.

What does everyone think I should do?

I would suggest mandatory reconsideration with the possibility of that extra point is better that the certainly of War and Peace volume 2. 🤔

I would appeal, well worth doing. Xxxxxx

As I understand it a reconsideration still leaves the appeal option open and since he achieved standard without much hassle that extra point looks very tempting. 😉

It does indeed look tempting. But if I'm going to have the review next year anyway, I can't help thinking that it might be better not to rock the boat. They can reduce the award as well as increase it with a MR, that's the worry

The 'going down' warning is standard legal talk in order to put people off from risking weak but expensive appeals against decisions. The hassle free success you have had with your claim makes it extremely unlikely that they would fight over that one point. It would probably also show that it would be a waste of their time reviewing you in 22 months and getting War & Peace Vol.2. You did ask for opinions.

You have to be careful with questioning it as they can reduce it as well as increase it. x

That's my big worry. And I've been reading the Benefits and Work guide on MR very carefully - and I notice that it's at great pains to point that out, that the award can go down as well as up

I'm sorry to hear that you were turned down. I just wish there was some way that they could spend one day having to go through what we go through. They would soon change their tune then.

I'd go for it Huff. Get help filling your Mandatory reconsideration form, if you can.

Have you ever contacted Occupational health about an accessment?

( I think that's what they're called.)

I think you do it through your local council office. They come out and see how you manage. xx

Yeah, I did Occupational health in 2009. Got a level access shower out of that :)

Appeal. Nothing to lose, possibly a lot to gain.

I may be wrong but it’s down to personal hygiene and feeding yourself. If like me you can keep yourself clean and cook for yourself then you don’t get full payment for personal support. However they forget about the housework and gardening.

They haven't forgotten about it but choose not to see it as relevant. Remember too the whole purpose of PIP was to try and save money so if they included things like housework it would cost too much. x

They told me they don't count shopping and housework.

Apparently, housebound people can shop online and live in a pig sty.

Those two activities are the most draining on me, Mainly due to my Fibromyalgia, yet they don't count.

Sheer madness!!! xx

Yes I know. I have a very good wife who does most of the work but if I were single I could die of food poisoning or a serious accident but that don’t count. Shame on them

I'm hoping I'll end up with an indefinite award eventually. They did the same with my DLA, gave me a time limited award the first time, and then indefinite the second. Which is why I'm torn between just leaving it or asking for the reconsideration.

Do you know why you were -1 point? Could you not add to your original epic or re word and make it clearer. Then send it back asking for a reconsideration for enhanced rate?

I think if you got enhanced they would leave you in peace a lot longer.

I think it may be an age thing. I’m 67 and got mine until I’m 75. I assume after that it’s attendance allowance which is a lot less
