What is an exeacerbation? My doctor has not mentioned this possibility, but having seen it several times on BLF I know that it is 'a thing' that occurs with lung illness.

It’s another term for chest infection and some have rescue packs (steroids and antibiotics) to combat this. Xxxxx

A worsening of a disease in its symptoms

An exacerbation is a worsening of your symptoms. This can be through a chest infection where you normally cough up yellow or green mucus, or you don't but feel unwell instead. You normally need antibiotics and maybe steroids to to cure it.

You can have an exacerbation with no infection which is normally set off by a trigger ie dust mites, aerosols, paint etc. If this doesn't settle using your inhalers over time then you might need a course of steroids (not ab's).

Obviously being unable to breathe is a medical emergency so seek medical help asap x

Thanks to all who replied. I kept seeing the term, but had no idea of what it was.
