PIP Results

Got my letter back for PIP, they've said no, I'm not eligible, it's disgusting and makes me annoyed how can someone sit in an office and decide, just because I might look normal, this does not make it ok for them to say I don't qualify. Well, bring on the fight! anyone got any tips and advice please.

Sad to say you need to appeal and go court if need be, I think they say no to most people initially. And yes it is disgusting we have to go to such extremes for the help we need.

Hi can you tell me how long after your face to face assessment did you wait to receive your letter saying they have all the information needed ? I had my assessment 2 weeks ago and haven’t heard anything at all. I can’t stop stressing about it. Keeping my fingers crossed for you x

Got my letter within a week. After I rung on the pretence I was just checking to see if they needed any other paperwork it spurs them on.

I’ve received my decision letter a few weeks ago and discovered that they didn’t contact any of the medics looking after me, including my GP. I responded to the DWP within the time limit of 30 days to appeal, they never answered my letters, I had to get my MP to contact them, which he did and the DWP said they need information from my GP which I had to pay my GP to provide the information with no income. Also they stop your DLA at the end of the month and don’t pay you until the end of the next month in arrears, therefore I have no income for September. My experience with them was that what you can do physically in your day to day living, and because I walked from the car park to the assessment centre I lost my mobility allowance regardless of how I managed it and I had no option as I had to attend.

Everyone should do a mandatory reconsideration and if that don’t work appeal gives you more time to get extra information. Don’t let them beat you

OMG cornflake57, yes, think I was penalised points just because I can talk about my condition, and because I seemed to have a good awareness of my illness, well of course I am, especially when those bad flares up come and I end up in hospital for 2 weeks or more.

Reply

That excuse, "You have good insight into your condition." Is used on everyone and is so flaming feeble.

Who wouldn't have a good insight into something they are suffering daily for years.

If you didn't have good insight into your disease, you wouldn't have been able to fill in the form and you would have still been refused it.

More to the point, why does how much you know about your disease, affect PIP eligibility.

It just doesn't make sense. xx

Everyone I know as been told same .. I think befoure law change the throwing everyone of pip.

Apparently winter ❄️ the changing law so those who are chronic sick ill dieased don’t keep getting reassessed or hassled.

Like I say everyone I know as been kicked off it AND those with m metal illness are at four front of harsh treatment.

My experience of pip assessment is threat’s NEEDLESS to say am still waiting to hear myself.

And is commen for dwp to ignore letters these days SHOCKING how public office can be so anti public

That seems to be the biggest problem with DWP, they seem to approach the benefits with a view that all breathing conditions improve, just the opposite to general medical opinion. Probably why they don't bother to seek your GP's opinion on the first application. Easier to judge on a single tick box assessment, but then that seems to be the norm these days.

I was under the impression it was renewed every three years, however mine is for 2 years, and also other people I know have been given 2 years.

They send forms out to renew after 2 years, it's confusing but correct.

What have they said no to. They did that to me. I arranged a home visit because of my breathing I got them to write to my consultant and GP Don't give in if you got a case fight. I nearly gave up but my hubby pushed me to keep trying and they came round.good luck get in contact with Age concern or cab they are really helpful.

Don't give in I got pip to come to the house because of oxygen which they did. But dopey person forgot to write it down on report so I arranged a letter from my consultant and doctor to say about oxygen. Still didn't hear from them so me being impatient I rung them to be told I had got full enchanced pip. I got their in the end. Had the same problem with universal credit. When I rung the department they said I should have been told by now turns out the person looking after my case had checked her computer it was on there that I had got universal credit but she had forgotten to press the key to send it through. She apologised but we had been waiting over 3 weeks. I had no choice but to give up work didn't want to. Luckily had bit of money left to just about live on. They wouldn't like it if they were not paid on time and the boss turned round and said oops sorry I forgot to press the key to send it through to wages department. We are every day ordinary people asking for a little help with money to help us get by.and thank God we get free prescriptions now.

Hi there, my pip was refused in December 2017, I done a mandatory consideration, that was refused so I decided to appeal , and go to the tribunal, it has taken 41 weeks for my appeal to be heard and I am pleased to say the 3 people on the panel overturned the dwp decision to cancel, so keep going with it,i was never going to give up as I have cancer& lots of other health issues, copd, asthma, anxiety, depression, finally got a payment on Thursday and they had to back pay me..

Reading these comments I'm appalled; I don't wish ill health on anyone but maybe it needs one or two of the 'decision' makers to see family members experiencing such problems?

Hi Law fight them. I applied for my wife has bipolar, fibromyalgia had spinal surgery and heart attack in last year. Went for assessment and we taped it. My wife did not answer some questions I had to for her, she felt nervous and sick and was crying and shaking. The assessor said she looked and behaved fine. The decision maker refused our application we went to M R and won. They both contradicted each other and lied. What is so disgusting is that they are both still assessing people. Where is the accountability if we lied we would be punished they get away with it. The system is corrupt even taping them they lied. You don’t say what your condition is.

The assessor in my case or the decision maker have provided things in my report that never happened in the assessment, seems I'm not the only one, but I am not sure what to do about it. Have sent an email to my MP but he is conservative the ones that bought PIP in.

Hi LawH1512

You can ask them to look at your case again, I think you should do that before appeal.

You must say how you are affected, not what is wrong with you.

Cooking. you can prepare a prepare and cook a meal for one because, of pain, breathless and light headed for medication makes you light headed and unsafe to use pans with hot water,

You are confined to microwave and fast food like pies and micro meal.

Getting dressed/undreassed you NEED HELP for whatever reason and it takes how long?

You need help bathing, out of breath for example you can't manage alone, again medicine side effect comes into play. You have to explain how your condition requires you to need help.

Toilet - Having a grab rail, someone to help you get up of toilet or even having to use the wall to heave yourself up...

Four question answered proper standard rate,

Remember you can have cancer but if you can manage, you won't get PIP - If you can show you NEED HELP, you will.

My advice is ask for them to look again - If no again you get an appeal and you get to explain why you need help again,,

remember it is not what you have got, it is how it affects your daily life ..

Hi. I have multiple conditions and am unfit for work, as have been for last 5 years. I too got turned down, went to appeal, 2nd time for me then to tribunal. I was 15 MTHS without money and had to wait 9 MTHS for a tribunal date. Thankfully 2 weeks ago I was awarded standard for living and enhanced for mobility. You need to appeal, mandatory reconciliation, then if still no luck go to local CAB who will take on your case and represent you at court. They and the tribunal are totally independent of DWP. It is a hassle but worth it. I've had to do this twice, this time awarded for 3 yrs and backpayed. Make a note of everything drs letters etc. At court they only take into consideration from the date of appeal, not after whilst waiting. For me it was 1yr after appeal , aug 2017, so make notes. It is worth pursuing, as said people who don't know you shouldn't have to judge.

Good luck with everything.

How disgraceful. Those assessments are totally unnecessary. Ask for a mandatory reconsideration, if unsuccessful Please go to appeal and say you have been misrepresented at your assessment. Outline your needs and what help you require. I'm sure on appeal you will win. Make sure you are represented by someone from cab or another agency. Don't be afraid to challenge their decision. Those assessments need scrapped. The examiners are supposed to be health professionals yet they lie about people at assessment. Good luck.

Hi. First I believe you can appeal the decision. Next, when applying for PIP or any other benefits, when answering questions on your health, medical conditions etc, remember to answer them as to how you feel on your WORST day. When at an appeal tribunal avoid saying things like "don't feel too bad today, or not been too bad this past week" etc. You will kill your appeal there and then. Make a list of any symptoms you experience/suffer and take it with you. Remember to write it down as soon as you can. If you have a carer/friend or family member who helps you try to take them to the appeal, you are allowed to have someone with you. These appeals can be stressful and you may forget things so the more info you write down the better, and your friend with you may be able to interject if you stutter or cant answer questions because you are nervous. Take a current list of meds with you, there is no guarantee a tribunal will have latest from your GP. Also, let your GP know when you have an appeal date, ask him/her if they will write a summary of your health issues, it may cost you £30 or so but if you will it will be well spent. In fact it is good idea to keep a diary of all times you see your GP, hospital etc relating to your ailments. You can often bet the people sitting in front of you do not have the up to date information! Hope this helps, it worked when I supported my brother who like you got messed about. I went t appeal with him, he won and all his benefits/PIP were backdated to date of his original application!! Good luck.

Sorry to hear of your predicament.I don`t usually contribute on here I just read the posts to keep ahead of new things with regard my situation.I can only say to you what is my personal experience dealing with the DWP and IDS`s minions.what they do to very sick people is not far short of scandalous.

ATOS and whatever has replaced them are there to not give you your entitlements.Treat this like a game you versus them and you have to fight.I say this so you cannot become disheartened.

The first thing to do is get a coach. There are several out there who can assist you with the answers you should give to explain fully how your disability affects you and I do mean fully. Not all the questions are what they seem to be at first reading and beware your answers have to fully tick their boxes or you do not get any points.

With regards the GP letters and consultant assessments they will NOT go out of their way to get them as they cost which comes out of their fee.Advice on how to go about this process is out there C.A.B is a good start and its free, there are others, Benefits and Work which costs and a couple of others I checked out, whose names I forget ,its been a while since I went through this pantomime.

Remember do not get disheartened Its a game and you have to fight to win.I am sorry if I sound a bit flippant I have to keep things in perspective or I will go off in a Rant.IDS and the DWP have a lot to answer for.

Hi. I am in the same position as you and am waiting for my court appeal date. Been waiting almost a year now and still no date. I also helped somebody else with a claim and watched the process. Sorry you've been affected by the pip assessor.

I helped my aunt appeal and it was successful. We took the score sheet and went through each section. They had scored nil for some activities despite there being information about help required. We pointed these errors out, a few extra points could mean scoring enough to entitle you to pip. Really break tasks down eg getting out of chair - do you have to do it in stages and rest in between the stages? Once upright do you need a stick or similar? Write everything down no matter how small.

E g Aunt scored nil on help with medication; she has a blister pack delivered and has to have simple lids as her arthritis affects her hands she cannot make fine movements; due to pain, weakness and restricted movement due to deformity. The wording tells it all.

Don't assume they understand anything, break all tasks down. Be pedantic.

Keeping a diary can be helpful, again list everything.

I hope this is of help.

I was awarded pip enhanced rates of care and mobility long term.

I've had experience helping others claim dla, those were all successful. I'm now retired so have only done 2 other PIP claims, 1 was successful and the 2nd was aunts but she won her appeal.

Don't I go on!

Best of luck
