Hurricane Florence

Our very own Mr mellyme, who lives across the pond in North Carolina good old USA is about to experience some rather wet and windy weather.now knowing Mr melley,a resilient and steadfast character, he will be well prepared and no doubt his motley crew of battered animals and of course the not so loveable pet rat will all be safe and well strapped down.

i have chanced upon possibly the worst bit of news casting and weather forecasting know to the television world and i hope the state of Carolina is slightly more organised lol.

Good luck Mr mellyme we are all rooting for you.

And grand (albeit wet) gratitude for your good wishes, dear mate from the other side of the much too hot pond. I will remain safe considering my misery should I be out of touch from my dear family on this site. Skischool, I am well aware that your beast of a feline, being a hater of dogs and pet rats, performed some strange voodoo arts in the creation of storm Florence. I will forgive considering her servant-man is such a fine fellow. Thanks so much. I hope I maintain electrical power, and will be in touch, so fear not the bad winds of nature or lungs keeping me away from my distant cousins.

Scruffy is beside herself with anguish, having taken assurances from Lord T,current boss of the USA that you will be saved and that his team are 'on it' so to speak.

Fear not bro Mr T will hold back that storm and negotiate safe carriage(seven for the price of 3)should you require it.

Love and best wishes Scruff's and slave.xx

Not to worry I think it’s the media’s job to turn a life’s event into a stage3 catastrophy before it even happens. For sure mother Nature is one crazy mother when she wants to be. I love all the comments about our , designated by the people, wall builder. Many of us believe he may not have taken 8th grade history here in the United States since that country he wants to lock out helped build ours and many are our family and friends live there. Goods and bads with everything of course but most normal people just want to get along with the rest of the world and not go around bein a big bully. We ALL learned in Kindergarten nobody likes a bully or a tattletale.

... We lived through level 1 it made a mess out of Halifax.... The people that didn't leave will be on there own until the storm is over .. Some housing won't last with these winds... You can't blame the media for reporting if they didn't they would be to blame for not reporting..... it started off as a four down graded to a 2 but that is still bad with the rain and water level is suppose to go up by 4 meters....

skischool profile image
skischool in reply to Clamdigger

We all moan about the weather in Britain and we have witnessed some extremes, albeit for us,in the last few years but inevitably not many lives are lost or houses and livelihoods destroyed and thankfully we have 'The Met Office' the UK's national weather service normally, but not always, second to none and some fairly honest and reliable news outlets to advise us.

Sorry my little reply sounds like an advert for come and live in Britain lol though we do have the remains of a wall built by Hadrian, but we have the Italians to thank for that, :) x

mellyme profile image
mellyme in reply to skischool

And dear friend, I am about to ask for a volunteer to adopt me, that I can become a true man of scones and Eccles delights, clotted cream on the side. Your fine land is one I must applaud almost daily. My affection for the bad lung gang has promoted my bookmarking the 'Met Office', that I may follow the daily forecast of you cousins. We have much to learn from our North Sea cousins. I believe the wall built by Hadrian failed and actually attracted the soon to join the party Scotland. And they brought terrifying horns and Tartan array to add to the beauty and culture (and shortbread diet) of your land. Hadrian goofed, a good goof.

Sandyeggo profile image
Sandyeggo in reply to skischool

My apologies for my ignorance but I’ve no idea who Hadrian is /was. I barely know the history in my country never took “world” history. I do notice tho that wherever any of us come from we all have a list of complaints about it lol. It is a beautiful sunny & 75 today in my world an all that’s required of me are a few tummy rubs to make my whole pack happy then I’m happy and life is good .🏄‍♀️

quick history link:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadri...

Hadrian was a roman emperor in Britain who had a penchant for building walls

Living over here with such extreme weather it is hard to predict .. With our water it is getting warmer in NS the hurricanes are not dying out like before hitting our coast line.. ... . ..This summer we were suppose to get hit by a hurricane then it ended up going out to sea.. when I moved to NS over forty years ago we didn't get storms like this.. Wright now we have been getting warm weather in mid 20's not good for us for fall storms..The storms coming up states side have been getting worse and more hurricanes ...A couple of years ago we were getting snow storms in May and had a 16 ft snow bank in May.. I find the weather is getting out of sink and getting worse..... I couldn't live in those area's with the type of storms they get..

Cat 2 can still produce 15 inches of rain. Cat 2 eighty mile an hour winds can still tear a good roof apart.

I am thinking of you and watching the news every few hours. I so hope it breaks up into a tropical storm for ya but alas you know who’s gonna be knocking on your door soon- Mother Nature to give you an ass kickin most likely. I live in fire country but I’m coastal so luckily I don’t have to worry about moving large animals out🙏 but just having to “be prepared” is extremely stressful too. I really hope you’re feeling safe and at high ground? The ocean waters out there look terrible on my world surf cameras. Stay dry🤞🤞 I know you are possibly in a tragic situation so I won’t ask for a picture of the waves.Best wishes for a speedy dry out. I live in San Diego, CA don’t hate me

mellyme profile image
mellyme in reply to Sandyeggo

Thank you so much Sandyeggo. I appreciate it. Yes, you on the West Coast had a battering from north to south. It was unbelievable. My daughter lives in San Francisco and she spoke often of the California smoke and fire tragedies. So I'm a few hours from the coast and will probably get tons of rain but not the coastal destruction. I'm just hoping we don't lose power, but since the odds are we definitely will, I'm hoping it is not for long. Nothing worse then wet humid 90 degree temperatures. Have a great evening. I visited San Diego many years ago on several occasions when I lived in Los Angeles. I believe San Diego is the most beautiful city in the United States. Denver is a close second in my opinion, but the water around San Diego are it. What a buffoon we have in Washington. It's a daily circus.

Do you have back up charged batteries for phone, electronics? Apparently still got WiFi ! LOL. Funny a long time ago I was giving Alaska a thought( it was a quick fleeting one) an I asked a local Cable TV installer about how I’d get my favorite shows if I lived there. He told me I could get good TV broadcast from anywhere. Phone and power lines were a whole different headache though. What brought you to this BLF? Instead of? I don’t even know what we’ve got as far as the American version do you? But we DEFINEATELY gotta agree these British have way better healthcare than us huh? But then who doesn’t right? Haha I don’t see it changing soon either. Oh and PS I didn’t vote for him, political party aside I just don’t dig meanies, and “ YOU’RE FIRED” just isn’t nice. Wow I didn’t know it was that hot and humid, not that familiar with that weather, just saw it in mild form in Hawaii when I was younger

mellyme profile image
mellyme in reply to Sandyeggo

Alaska...NOT! :) I think I was scrolling around looking for a lung support group. I found nothing here, but came across the BL by accident. Fell in love with these folk in a few seconds.Yes, their healthcare should be honored. And meanies are not what we need. But it is what we got.

mellyme profile image
mellyme in reply to Sandyeggo

Lots of wind. Many in city without power already. Rain hasn't even started. Expect 10 inches here.

Sandyeggo profile image
Sandyeggo in reply to mellyme

My news says you’ve been downgraded to a tropical storm👍👏 I’m very happy for you for that but Monday could bring a whole new batch of rain they say. This can’t possibly be your first rodeo with this whole weather situation is my best guess. Hope you’re breathing easy literally and not too stressed out-hows the hound dealing with it? Sleeping it away? The sun will shine again keep good thoughts we’re rooting for ya

mellyme profile image
mellyme in reply to Sandyeggo

Been out of power all day. Just came on, for now. Still expecting 6 to 10 more inches. Yikes. Doing wee. Lucky. This isn't my first rodeo, but none are fun. The doggies are stressed, but treats keep them at bay(?).

Hey Mel check this out, you may know this one already but I just got a heads up from one of my local buddies to start getting Ziplocks ready cuz we all know fires will be coming we literally skipped winter last time so everything’s super dooperdry. Ziplock bags 3/4 full lay on top of each other beautifully in freezer, if water or power goes out those ziplocks go in the cooler and we’re off like a herd of turtles with enough water to get through 3 days or so with 2 humans, 2-4 dogs depending on the day. 2 are always mine but we have 2 more close relatives usually hangin around, 3 birds a turtle and turtle’s pet sucker fish. The birds are the dog’s pets. If dogs are far off and with the lung issues I can’t whistle very well anymore, does anybody else have that problem? But I can whistle to the birds and they’ll whistle call in the dogs.I have an awesome pack! Although we’re all different species be it mammal, reptile or whatever we all work together. And my dogs are Timber Sheps but somehow they know anybody in a cage here is a pack member and NOT a food item. I love that in them although we teach it when they’re cubs. We learned the hard way many years ago, coming home to half eaten lizards like iguanas. Birds are a trip they are tougher than ya think. I wouldn’t trust Mr Skischool’s Scruffy around them though I get his kitty’s vibe that there’s always a party on when that cat says so-LOL. Guess you need to start saving those nickels and dimes and get a good used generator huh. Thinking of you an all your neighbors hang in there and don’t let it get ya down. You got sand bags? LOL-I do deliver but I’m sure you guys are locked in. It’s the American way , lock em in-lock em out around an around. Do you think all our lovely Brit friends laugh at us? I do but I’m totally ok with givin em a good laugh on us🥂🍺

Here down under, that is Oz, Australia, we are all thinking of you guys that are possibly in the wake of this storm! We hope you all remain safe and come through this 'thing' feeling good, happy, healthy with love in your heart. If its a real horror show may you all survive also with love in your heart and in your health in tact or at the very least has not worsened. The very best of luck to you all...regardless where you are. Cheers, jules

Thanks so much. I think we will be fine. The wind is beefing up now, and the rains begin in a few hours. Expecting 8 to 10 inches of rain. We have fingers double-crossed. The coastal towns are taking a beating. You be well, and I love being supported from down under.
