I was diagnosed with bronchitis/copd..3months ago..had spirometry test for diagnoses..my lung function test was 75/:..I was on spiolto respimat 2puffs in morn..and fllxotide..2puffs twice a day..my gp put me on them when I got chest inf.that needed 3 antibiotics..she said I prob have copd..I had also to go to a & e twice with bad wheeze and breathlessness..they sent me to respiratory clinic..doc there said I dont need flixotide because my lung function was good..so told me to stopwhere I was diagnosed..I also had blood test done at clinic..which showed I havee mild asthma..so doc rang me to say go back on flixotide but only 1puff twice a day..my problem is im wheezing all the time cant walk very far I am so frightened by it..does copd or asthma cause wheezing..I didnt have it much when I was on 2,puffs of flixotide...im back on 2 now but wheezing wont go..does anyone else suffer with bad wheeze...

This all sounds such a muddle. I suggest you go back to the GP and ask for an urgent referral to a respiratory consultant.

But whilst waiting for that to come through, the GP needs to be told exactly of your breathing problems and wheezing, which could be a chest infection, or asthma, or COPD, or something completely different. The GP should be able to help you, struggling on like this isn’t right.

Hi, I have severe emphysema which seems to have followed on from an Asthmatic condition. I have wheezing quite a lot and breathlessness. I have to live with it. All of my inhalers I take with an spacer (Large type) as I do not have the puff to suck in a powder inhaler. I am unfortunately not familiar with your inhalers but your problem maybe as simple as the type of inhaler they have you on. I would suggest that you talk it thro' with your GP urgently

I would go back to the Dr and get checked out.. For me the weather can be hard on your lungs .. We had a very hot summer and humid... My acted up all summer just starting to get better.... It ddin't matter what I took.... Do you think it might be the weather causing things to act up...

The hot and humid weather is definitely a culprit. Air conditioning is good, but can also be too drying for your lung tissue. So, I advise that you run air conditioning just enough to keep humidity out of your living space, and increase your water intake to keep your insides hydrated. Also, pay attention to your sinuses, and get control of any post nasal drip of sinus congestion, which usually increases during jog and humid weather. Taking care of your nose, improves your lungs. Using saline nasal mist to keep drainage moving down your throat past your lungs, and/or using Flonase sensi mist to clear up allergy nasal symptoms quickly.

Hi! I am an American nurse, and have asthma. I can tell you, that you can test quite differently from one day to another. My question, would be.....do you suffer from post nasal drip?.......do you also have allergies?.....is it hot AND humid outside or inside of your home? Wheezing can occur with either diagnosis. You state that your tests had you at 75.......is that 75% of your expected normal values? If so, You are right there on the edge if either diagnosis......and like I said, you can test differently on any day of the week. If you were experiencing wheezing on your testing day, of course your results would be effected. Your second doctor adjusted things, and said that your lung function is good. Right now......I want you to add two teaspoons of dark Buckwheat honey to your hot tea, every single time you have a cup of tea. Only dark Buckwheat honey......and have several cups per day. You will notice your wheezing to diminish fairly quickly. Do deep breathing exercises for 6-8 minutes per day. Count to 5 on the inspiration, and count to 7 on the expiration. Strengthening those lungs, will improve lung function. I like the approach of your most recent doctor. I would like to hear back from you!

Maybe you haven't shifted the chest infection yet. Does the Dr. think the chest infection has gone? Perhaps a different kind of antibiotics would help. I would go back to the Dr. In the meantime, rest up, try not to panic and do some breathing exercises 5 in through the nose and 7 out through the mouth.

COPD and asthma can cause wheezing. For me wheezing and more breathlessness and coughing precedes an exacerbation of COPD and time to take antibiotics and steroids. But antibiotics don't seem to have helped you.

Thanks so much for all your help much appreciated...mopie..my pulmonary fuction test (spirometry) results were 75/%..respiratory doc said it was a good result..as I am 64..and am a long term smoker...not sure about post nasal drip..but my nose is clogged up every morning..I was on 1puff of inhaler but now I am taking 2 puffs twice a day..wheeze seems to be improving..a lot.I will try the tea you suggested..I will let you know how I get on..thank you..stamford 1234..I dont have chest inf even tho I was on antibiotics..blood test showed no infection...other blood test I think it is called Alpha 1..??..showed I had asthma..for which I take flixotide..thanks...

You want to clear up that morning nasal congestion, to help your lung issues. That congestion us also dripping down to your lungs during the night. I would suggest Flonase Micromist two inhalations in each nostril every evening, to clear up that nasal congestion. This is almost immediately effective. Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for the advise mokie..I will get those nose drops..but I am feeling much better now that im taking 2puffs of flixotide instead of 1..no wheeze in the morning + im coughing up a lot of gunk now which I think was stuck in my airways and causing the wheezing.
