Hi ger67 I am new to all this what is this prednisone that’s had such a negative affect on you why must you stick with it where’s there life there’s hope xxxx

in reply to christina1947

Steroid..I've been on some form for most of my life they have contributed to all the damage in my spine..last consultant was 'loath" to give them..don't worry when I say I give up in don't mean litterly Iv my daughter and three beautiful granddaughters.Thank you for your concern but I'm fine that way just all this confusion is so annoying

Hi Ger67, Pete has been on steroids since 1992 and started off at 30mg per day. He’s now on 10mg per day and that’s where he will stay until he draws his last breath but give up! ......never! He’d not had a break either but just carries on as he enjoys life so far as he can.

Hope to hear from you again. Xxxx😘

in reply to sassy59

Sorry Carol and Pete was having a really bad day I shouldn't have written that..I'll keep your reply and look at it when another bad day comes along. Thanks Ger x

Please don’t apologise Ger as you’re entitled to have an off day. Pete has a trachea that can collapse if he coughs too hard and herniated discs in his back both possibly caused by steroids so I get where you’re coming from.

Hope you have some really good days ahead. Take care xxx😘

That's really humbled me and given me my mojo back thanks again 😚

Hi Ger you sound be fed up with the steroids. Hope they start doing the job and things get easier for you soon 🤞I sometime think that no wonder some people go for private consultations as some respiratory clinics/areas don’t seem as ‘on the ball’ as others. Hope you keep in touch and take care of yourself.

in reply to Kristicats

Thanks Chriskho..just the mixed messages the lung consultant insisted I take them then very next day dermatologist said that "a lot of steroids considering the damage to you spine already" ..thanks for your reply

Yes they don’t seem to take in the whole picture do they.....or communicate. Feel for you and hope you get to see a good respiratory physician .

Thanks again Chriskho for your understanding

I wanted to say something supportive and inspirational but it just sounds crass. Doctors often don’t seem to understand but people here do so you can rant all you want here when you’re having a bad day.

in reply to HungryHufflepuff

Aww thanks you so much to take time out to reply and it dosent take a twenty page post to be inspirational because the fact you care is inspirational on its own,the very you replied is supportive..thank you again I'm truly blessed to have all my lovely virtual friends 😊 Ger

Hello, I'm sad to hear that you have so much 'damage' due to the prednisone- I too have spine issues- as well as ILD- Interstitial Lung Decease- gained almost 25 pounds when first taking 60mg daily. Although I am now weening off the prednisone. I know that when the time comes for the lung replacements, I will need to go back on- :(.

Wishing you well, with some understanding..

in reply to MicBel

Hi MicBel thank you and it's so great to hear that from someone who has bought and worn the 'T shirt' ..this consultant probably knows what he doing but it's the weight thing and then said to my daughter who had a bottle of coke ZERO watch that or you'll have a problem..poor man's face when she said really? My daughter won slimmer of the year recently (local area) losing five and a half stone down to 9st and has mentained that for a year through healthy lifestyle and gym while working and looking after two special needs children.Dr shuffled went red shuffled his paperwork and muttered for me to come back in 6weeks..maybe I'm being unfair to Dr but was funny. Thanks again. Ger

You have my sympathy, I've never had to take them that long, but when I've taken them, I just can't sleep and feel out of sorts.

Keep your chin up, they're horrible little things, but when you need them, you need them x x

in reply to Shirleyj

Thanks Sherleyj great advice I think it was the here's another 8 boxs and you need to lose weight in the same breath but Dr was right and I've cut all the rubbish..first weigh in tomorrow 😦 I'll keep you posted and thanks again

Hi Ger67

You've had some very positive comments and I'd just like to add that I hope you stay with us. I've been a member for 4 years now and I don't post a lot but I read the posts most days and it's been a great source of information and support to me. As for the steroids I have a couple of friends who've been on them long term and they're both doing ok.

Keep posting and let us know how you're doing.

Take care and best wishes

Corin

Hi ger67 keep going and tbh all I can say is listen to your body not always trust doctors mine are useless ! I have an emergency pack and only take them when I feel I need too ! I feel I get more compassion from my hostpital than I do from my doctor ! and sometimes it's the compassion that lifts us not so much the meds . Wishing you better days regards Davy boy xx

Thanks Davy definitely taking in all that you've said and get back in the saddle

in reply to Ramy22

Aw thanks Ramy I'm so fortunate to have so many lovely people supporting me..as I was saying on here to Dave today, sorry about yesterday I was throwing my toys out of the pram when I should be thankful that I'm not as I'll as many on here so I'll be around on here for a while yet if that's ok 😊

Hello Ger67

Everything that happens to us is relative and we are allowed to throw our toys out of the pram pram as long as we pick them all up again.... and you have! And I’m very pleased! 😀

I know they are evil been on them without a break for coming on 20 years (might have to have a celebration) varying dose. I too have spinal and skin issues as well as having had to have both cataracts done!

But they do let me “live” and still work in some form.

We all have down days and at least being on here makes you realize you are not alone.

Hope you start to feel a bit better.

Hi QuietChest3 please don't get me wrong I would be completely beat with out prednisone it's not new to me i been on and off them most of my adult lift its just the side effects and so like your have been attending dermatologily since 1984 spine quite bad 'how are you still standing' my GP said reading the results of back scan and waiting ages to have cataracts done..my frustration yesterday came from seeing two consultants in 24 hrs period the boss saying here's another 8 boxs and next saying do you think you should be taking all those..did he think I broke into the chemist a stole them lol.Thank you so much for your reply Ger

Hi, I have only just joined but like you spending months on tablets. I am now on my second course of a 100 doxycycline as well as my asthma meds.

Don't think of it as giving up. You are coping with a chronic condition and all drugs have side effects. Concentrate on doing things which make you happy and keep well. I felt so much better making time for me and that included eating nutritious foods but not diets. I booked some sessions with a personal trainer and it really helped. I benefited enormously from the bit of extra strength I have gained especially when I had to use crutches. Also so good to spend time with someone positive and going somewhere other than than the doctors / hospital

in reply to

Hi and welcome..I'm actually quite a positive person but totally accept all the things don't know if you saw my original post when Dr said I should lose weight and he's definitely right was just how he said it,exercise maybe later done the road as my lungs work at 20% and I've been moved from a stick to a rotator but the healthy eating IS something I can do something about and have first weigh in tomorrow first week over watch this space..so greatful to you all but when I titled that..I give up! I diddent ment I'm so frustrated not I give up in any dangerous way. Thanks again for your input.Ger
