The Rainbow Bridge.

There was an old rhymer called Don

Who kept writing rhymes on and on,

They got more boring each day

So they wished him away.

He said, that's it I'll be gone.

But there was an old terrier called Midge

Who refused to go over the Bridge.

She said no Rainbow for me

I've not had my tea.

It's probably still in the fridge.

Your rhymes so are not boring Don! They’re sometimes topical, sometimes funny, sometimes cynical, sometimes uplifting, sometimes poignant, sometimes a mix of all of that and then some, but never boring.

Good for Midge. No maudlin self-pity there. Get your priorities right: your tea is not in the fridge but steaming gently in the Aga. Get over the hill, you old scallywag.

Nobody is wishing Don away

So welcome are his rhymes

Will expect another one today

It adds seasoning and thyme..

Such a warm heart is Midge

A loving hungry pet

He did well on that ridge

So don’t fret..

Wishing you well our dear Don x

In reply to our rhymer called Don:

You say we're a critical lot,

Who don't want your rhymes, but we're not.

We look forward each day,

to see what you'll say

The idea to dump Don, what rot!

I hope neither of you are thinking of going over the rainbow bridge just yet. We’ll miss your rhymes. Are you off on your travels again soon?

There was an old rhymer called Don

Who kept writing rhymes on and on,

They got better each day

So they wished he would stay.

We don't want you to go, Don,

But don't feel put upon,

Stay with us for more years

Your friends need you, please.

Don without you our lives would be worse

And I don’t mean we’d all need a nurse

Just stop and reflect

You’ve had such an effect

That we all are now speaking in verse

I'm really touched. What a lovely bunch of people you are.

You're like the pied piper Don. I had a vision of us all skipping after you and Midge. Well maybe not skipping exactly - maybe "lumbering" would describe some of us better ! Sheila xx
