Dialysis

I have been receiving dialysis due to kidney failure for about 10 weeks. It all happened very quickly. I would be interested to know if anyone else on this forum was on dialysis. Lilian xx

Thank you Ski. Still overwhelmed with it all. I go to Bath 3 times per week for dialysis, it's not too bad. I hope you're feeling better now Ski. Love to Scruffs. Lilian xxxxxx

I am fine thank you Lilian, where you given any reason for the sudden kidney failure.it seems unusual for such a sudden onset? and are there chances of a recovery for your kidneys?sorry lots of questions,xx

I had swollen legs and feet, urine very frothy and not passing much. Had a blood test, was sent to A & E next day and then onto intensive care, had a 'line' put into my neck and onto dialysis. My diagnosis - End stage kidney disease due to renovascular disease. The consultant said he can guarantee me 2/3 years but can't guarantee 5 years. I was pleased with that, thought I had a lot less time. Without dialysis it's about 3 weeks. Never thought I would end up with kidney failure, no symptoms at all really apart from swollen legs. Dialysis is a bit tiring but I feel fine otherwise. Travelling quite tedious but get free transport which is very good. That's the gist of it Ski. Watch out for swollen legs and ankles, I thought mine was due to COPD! Thank you for being interested. Love Lilian. xxxxxx

Gosh that is a tragic story Lilian and you are so brave, are you able to go on the kidney transplant list straight away,i actually have recently heard of the tale of a friend of my brothers, quite a young man whose mother donated him a kidney and they are both well on the road to recovery, would such a possibility be available for you should a suitable donor be found?

i am sorry if i am asking to many questions at this difficult time in your life.

Love Ski's xx

You are not asking too many questions Ski, I don't talk about it very much to anyone, except the doctors so it is good for me to talk to you about it. I did wonder if anyone on our forum was on dialysis and how they got on with it. I am not eligible for a transplant as both my kidneys are affected. I am so grateful for dialysis. I suppose you know Ski that the machine takes all the blood out of your body cleans it then puts it back at the same time takes out 1.5 to 2 litres of fluid. Bloomin' marvellous. It is also taking excess fluid from my lungs which I suppose is helping my copd shortness of breath. Tell me about your recent bout of bad health Ski. Love Lilian xxxxxx

Yes Lilian it is an amazing bit of kit, strangely i watched a programme on the tv last night and the presenter an Asian doctor was returning to the hospital in Salford up here in Manchester where his own father a consultant had been on dialysis for some 15yrs previously, what a coincidence given you popping on today and telling us of your plight, which is somewhat more complex than your original copd diagnosis.I think you may have to try another forum related to renal diseases for fellow sufferers experiences.

My mystery tummy bug, although quite severe and prevented me eating for about a week with no other symptoms than nausea kind of pales into insignificance given your plight and i am 80% back to normal now but thank you for your concern.

i think you need a bit of family pampering now my love.

love Ski's and Scruffs :)

Pleased you're feeling better Skis. Feeling nauseas always knocks me for six. I get so much pampering from my family, I feel very lucky. Do you think kidney disease is more complex than lung disease? Did someone pamper you when you were unwell. Scruffy maybe!! Love Lilian xxxxx

Dear Lilian I'm so sorry to hear you've suffered kidney failure. I haven't had dialysis or kidney problems but I know the chemo I'm on can cause significant kidney issues...

I do hope the dialysis isn't too exhausting and you're coping ok...

Lots of love and hugs 💕❤💗

Thank you Anne. As you know, an illness like this takes over your life. Not too bad for me but I don't know how you cope with young children to look after. Hope you're having a 'good' day. Love Lilian xxxxxx

Well I think your positive attitude is amazing Lilian...the idea of dialysis 3 times a week sounds awful to me. Good for you ❤. I am not having too many good days yet, but I'm hoping for some soon 😉. Lots of love xxx

I'm so sorry to read you are on dialysis Lillian. I have followed your posts for a while, in particular the dialogue between yourself and Margaret during which you showed yourself to be a lovely caring woman. I wish you all the very best. 💐

Thank you Gladwyn for your very kind message. Yes, Margaret and I spent a lot of time messaging, I think back about those messages and wonder what it was all about, think it was all a bit odd. I'm just waiting t go off to dialysis, it gets me out of the house! I hope you are well Gladwyn.. Love Lilian xxxxxx

Thank you Carnival. When I see some of the young people on dialysis, I know, at my age, I haven't too much to complain about. All the best to you too. Love Lilian xxxxx

Sorry to hear your diagnosis, that happened to a freind of mine last year. She goes to dialysis three times a week, but feels much better and a lot of her swelling is gone. They have not given her an outlook for future, so she just takes each day as it comes, she is being given a new cannula in her neck again tomorrow as the one she already has isn't working too well. Make the best of each day Lilian xx

Thank you Kate. Sorry to hear about your friend. I know some people have a few problems with cannulas, lines and fistulas, mine is working well so far. My swelling has also gone. Now I'm being encouraged to eat as many calories as I can to avoid losing weight. I'm considering having home dialysis, the travelling and waiting around for transport takes up so much time. I hope you have recovered now Kate. Love Lilian xxxxxxx
