Lovely tranquil photo Clamdigger. It’s nice to have interests especially if stuck indoors.

I like reading, doing crosswords and being with the grandchildren.

Enjoy your day. Xxx

Lovely photo. I would like to know more about the sailing, please. I will get envious but hey hoe that’s life. What boat, where...?

One of my grandsons has just started sailing. After 4 weeks of instruction he was allowed to go solo in an Optimist. He is 7.

I write and paint, read, do puzzles.

Just seen your earlier post. That’s your boat?

Crikey, envy in shedloads...

Your envy is shared here too. I used to love holidays, sailing on the Norfolk Broads, which is great fun with 10 second tacking in the rivers before getting into the open broads. Now I suppose, boringly, work and surfing the web takes up most of my time now. It is good thing that I enjoy my work so much and would be lost without it.

My father had a boatyard on the Norfolk Broads so it is my old playground too.

My sister’s family still has boats there.

I started sailing about 15 years ago... I sail along the coast of NS I have a 32ft Columbia called Raven.. My Grandson has been sailing with us since he was three.. He is thirteen now and can handle Raven pretty good.. We were out in rough weather a couple of weeks ago in heavy fog and 2 meters seas 15 knot winds he did great sail by compass was proud of him....That is great about your grandson he will love it such freedom sailing.... For me being a women sailing not to many women will handle a sailboat.. I do the docking and sailing my husband handles the sails... I was crossing from Cape Breton from the Magdenline islands and the dolphines would come over and check out the boat .. Never forget it was night time I could see there eyes they came in that close.. I was bent over looking at them we were checking each other out... I love it out there mother nature for that moment in time puts on a show weather it is fog or a sunset.. Even though my time has shorten on the boat I fight for every moment that I can have.to sail... I find it changes you sailing such freedom... I'm on Facebook if you want to see more photo's.. Having been stuck indoors for over four weeks now (exacerbation followed by another) I am thankful that some of my hobbies take little physical energy. I read a lot (17 books last month but usually 8-10), listen to audiobooks - they are great when really exhausted, I knit for charities ranging from local special care baby unit to caps and small shawls for people with cancer. Am about to start on Morsbags - need to use up left over fabric from projects going back some years. The radio is a good companion and I do watch a bit of tv but not a great deal.

When I paint I listen to audio books .. What are Morsbags never heard of them.. I used to knit years ago until my hands got bad with OA wonderful pass time...

Morsbags are fabric bags that are made and given free to people to use instead of plastic bags. Have a look at their website as it gives lots of helpful information.

Too hot to be outside even with the sea breeze so I've made an early start on drawing and watercolour Christmas cards. I find that hobbies take my mind off all the nasties lurking in my head. Lol. Jane

Me too, I need to do stuff all the time to take my mind off things. I like to read but sometimes find I can’t focus for that long so I do sudoku or read newspapers or magazines because they have short articles. I try to be creative and make things but seem to have a different creative hobby each year, which is no bad thing I suppose. I’m always looking for new ideas for hobbies to keep my mind occupied.

I can’t for the life of me, figure out how to add a picture. I love to “go” sailing .Notice how I didn’t say I love to do the actual sailing. I find it to be more like hard work. But sitting there and letting strong people run around frantically pulling ropes and making the sails go up and down is quite entertaining. I prefer surfing but nowadays require so much assistance it sometimes takes the fun out. I’m an avid gardener. Here where I live I think we average about 300 sunny days a year so there’s something to grow year round and if outside is ugly I have inside lights as well to keep things growing or to start little guys. Then I’ve got animals: 2 large breed dogs, 3 cockatiel birds, a red eared slider turtle and a sucker fish. Then I have a pet- my husband. I’m actually starting a new hobbie as we speak called rug latch hooking w/wool strips.Ive gotten all my materials together so now just a matter of getting in a comfortable position and starting. I usually do all my fun & games stuff outdoors but tying new. I was what we call here a “gym rat” but lately my other muscle skeletal problems have been worse than breathing issues. We’re also in a heatwave so AC is mandatory if I wish to breath even a little. Thanks for a great post, I do love to hear what you guys do over there, over here an everywhere.

Ergendl profile image
Ergendl in reply to Sandyeggo

My Grandma used to latch hook rug mats with strips of cloth from worn out clothes which she hooked through sacking. They made excellent hearth rugs, and it was easy to replace any strips that got singed with sparks from the fire.

I have done some rug hooking pieces working on a big piece.wright now . Celtic pieces for my grandchildren ... It sounds like a wonderful place you live 300 days of sunshine.. Well Make Time, do it now, And you can do it all for FREE. find Birth, Marriages & Death records on the website Freebmd. Love doing family history I help friends that have been having a hard time of finding there own history.... One of the things I do is listen to there stories that might of been handed down.. One of the biggest one I did was a friend of mine .. She couldn't find anything she was in her 70's not to good on the computer .... I found everything wright back to Alexander the Great.. Her Grandfather from the 1700's was on the run ended up in Ireland and changed his last name ... but all the men were in wars so it was easy ... Another one was a story about two men being kicked out of England... Bacon was there last name.. and she told there was first nations in her blood... I just took a couple of days .. Found all the information and a painting that was done were they lived.. I have been looking for over 15 years on my own history.not getting any earlier than 1800's . My father was french his grandfather married first nation women.. Metis mixing of the blood.. But they took away there names and gave them English names... If you have native blood which most French people do it is rough finding your history... Finely found a house they turned into a museum outside of Qu Canada from the 1700's ... But my own has been the hardest not to many Girardin's plus everything turns to French.... My mother Wilson from Scotland it was easy..... Great pass time... it is great you got all the information on your family....

Hi Clamdigger, hope you have had a great day. Hobbies, gosh! where to start, I have many interests, and I am trying to cram in as much as possible while I can.

I have 2 aquariums and I breed fish, nothing absolutely amazing, 4 very large goldfish, and approx. 100 live bearers of all ages.

Gardening, we are trying to get the garden more manageable for when we are un able to.

Photography, underwater photography is my absolute passion, I was taking photos under water when is was first taking off, but I am not sure I will be able to do this again, but I have thousands of underwater images processed, and thousands more waiting to be edited, and totally amazing memories, I have been to the Red Sea 25 times, chasing the reef.

Travel, I just love being somewhere else, I have mental health problems including anxiety at leaving my house and garden, but travel is OK, because I know it is practically impossible that I am going to bump into anyone I know.

Photoshop, I like to make stunning images, abstract, arty, themed, I adore the bizarre.

We buy and sell antiques on eBay, so that takes a lot of time.

Walking in the countryside, swimming and going to the gym, it is difficult sometimes but I need to do what I can while I can.

I have many strong opinions on so many issues such as racism, homophobia, brexit,, sexism, the list goes on and on.

Recently I have been writing down my memories of glorious times. I am doing it on a spreadsheet so I can categories easily. Subjects such as my children and grandchildren, travel, school, work,, films, theaters and concerts I have been to, I make memories by actually telling myself to remember a certain image I am looking at. The reason for this is they will be good conversation starters for me to use when people visit when there is not much to talk about other than medications and health plans. I add memories daily.

I was writing a children's book on marine conservation, I have enough material to fill 3 books, but I am finding it quite difficult to put together now.

I so love to write.

I so love to read.

Have a great day, do something fabulous x

Sounds like you have been to great places for photography .. I do abstract with reflections using water at night on the wharf the fishing boats and lights the reflections give really neat abstracts.... . Your family must be proud of what your doing and what you have done... Your leaving a wonderful history behind of who you are ... My grandmother was a artist only have a photo of her work.... For my Grandchildren I have four.. This year I'm getting wooden chest made for each one and I'm going to put things I made for them and paintings and I'm getting rings made for them out of my old ones...this is my next hobby sorting things out .. They get when they are eighteen... . But your world does become small... I think every one with this illness deals with depression every day I do.. But with all we do we are very lucky we don't sick to far and do nothing... I'm sixty and losing friends to moving or passing away I have two friends left... So I got a dog he really adds to my day....... My father was Metis which means mixing of the blood French married a lot of First Nations people my mother was Scottish.. I have been through hell with how people treating you different growing up ...My sister they called her half breed ... Told to sit at the back of the bus .we were beaten by teachers with a French last name and my dad part native not a good even through I grew up in Canada .all use never made it through schools because they were to rough on us being French/First Nation ... I turned out blue eyes curling hair my life a little different.than my sister who looked more native .... But I view things are getting better with things like if your gay to being black or First Nation ... I lived through it I have seen history change... and it is heading in the wright direction in some countries.... But I'll do the fight to my last breath correcting people.. To sit in silents is to agree....I disowned people for running down other Nations.. So my world is also small....have a great day.....Yvonne Murray/Facebook

I’m super lucky - I managed to buy some land from my uncle so I now have a little bit of woodland, a meadow and stretch of river to spend my days. Hobbies have gone out the window as we have set about cleaning it up of manmade rubbish with a view to turning the meadow into a wildflower one. It’s brought a new joy to my life that I struggle to describe such has been its impact. I spend time there during all weathers now. I don’t think I’ve felt more well since my diagnosis.
