Copd and lung transplant

Last time I I saw my consultant he mentioned having a transplant I sort of froze. I have read about it on as much as I dare. Suppose I'm scared. How long are you in hospital how successful is the op. How long are you in hospital for.

Hi Spacecat1 . 😊

I have been on the waiting list for fifteen months. I know it is scary. It certainly was for me all those months ago when I was first listed. I am still scared. But it gets better. Acceptance rolls in when you begin to realize there is life after transplant. It is very normal to be afraid.

Here in Japan, post op care is very long. Three months in hospital post transplant, no matter how well you are doing. I have read in the States people who go home after ten days if there are no issues. I have no idea about the U.K. Maybe sibkev can answer that or Hacienda . It really depends on how you do. They have to make sure you are well enough to go home and that when you do go home you can cope or have care.

Reading about it is possibly the most terrifying thing. Please know that a lot of the horror stories and up on the internet. And our stories will be our own. No one else's.

I hope it all goes well for you.

Best wishes,

Cas xx 🙋🐕

Hi Liz, As Caspiana says, It can feel Scary at first, then you will come to terms with your Diagnosis for Transplant. I joined 2 Transplant Hospital Forum's to Learn about Pro Transplant. While I was having my 4 day assessment, my Forever Friend in the next Bed to me received her New Lungs after 2 months, Great I'm so happy,( we are in constant touch every week). I'm still waiting on the List over 2 years, But, our requirements are all Different and a Match has to be 100%. All this is explained when you go for your initial transplant Appointment. Which Hospital will you be going to? I am with QE Transplant Unit Birmingham. I have other Friends who had their Transplants at Freeman in Newcastle. I belong to both of these Forums and have Learned a lot on after care. Right now, I do my utmost to stay 1) Positive, 2) Exercise, 3) Maintain my weight level, very hard, I love food. and generally doing what the Consultants tell me. You can Type in Search for Both of these hospital Forums to Join or the Hospital your Going to will have their own Forum I'm sure. Best of Luck Hun and please Don't Worry. Carolina XXXX
