Hi, You should be able to get oxygen under the EHIC arrangement but it will have to be sorted well before you go. You don't say what you are doing so it is a bit vague. I have just arranged oxygen in Majorca under EHIC arrangement

Hi, we are staying in an apartment for a month on Lagos. The owner will send details of local pharmacies hopefully.

Do I just ring a pharmacy and hope :-) ?

I would make sure you have the oxygen in place before you leave. You can contact BLF helpline and they will give you information on how to get oxygen free in portugal.

Hi, I am reliably informed that if you contact IHICK they should be able to provide for you. Failing that try your existing provider they often have a reciprocal arrangement with other countries.

Hi Monty_Zoomer

I have received the following information from the Portugese embassy:

• British tourists who travel to Portugal may use their European Health Insurance Card in any situation, including any care needed for chronic conditions;

• Oxygen therapy is part of the treatments covered, and can be done on-site;

• To request it, the tourist must bring a medical prescription stating their need for oxygen therapy;

• This prescription will have to be delivered to the Regional Health Administration (in the case of Algarve, this would be in Faro), as access to treatment is the same as for Portuguese citizens;

• The RHS will gather the tourists’ data and will get in contact with oxygen suppliers, who will install the necessary equipment in the tourists’ accommodation;

• There is no direct charge for the service to the tourist, as it is included in bilateral agreements between Portugal and the United Kingdom.

If you need any clarification on the above, I would recommend contacting the Portuguese embassy (portuguese-embassy.co.uk/en... ) on 0207 235 5331 or londres@mne.pt

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Ben

Hi,

Great to see that you got a response from BLF good info. I wish more people would have a go at getting oxygen in Europe as holidays are really important to people who are ill.
