Hello Clarice

I'm foxy79 I have been given colomycine but but after a week felt my body couldn't take it side effects was to much lose stomach fast heart beats oxygen dropping to 79% can you tell bit about colomycine and hiw long you been on it etc please if you don't mind please it's just other than internet I can't get any info

Hi Clarice,

It depends how long it has been going on. If it has recently come on it sounds to me as though you have a virus. If you have been suffering like this for some weeks it could be an exacerbation of your bronchiectasis going on and the colomycin isn’t coping. Inhaled nebs are given as a prophylactic to keep the numbers of bugs in the lungs down to manageable levels. Sometimes something like a virus or just the bugs evading the inhaled drug can mean that you get poorly. You may need another antibiotic orally or by IV to knock it on the head. If you have a good relationship with your consultant I would suggest phoning their secretary. Otherwise take some sputum for your GP to send off to find out what is in there. The problem is with us bronchs that in these circumstances GPs don’t really know what to do and it needs the expertise of the specialist.

Hi Clarice91. The symptoms you describe are excactly what I get when I have an infection. Maybe wrong antibiotic for the bug you’re currently battling. Maybe ask GP for another sputum test and/or a different antibiotic. Sorry to say but, usually when I feel this way, it’s a hospital admission and IV antibiotics. I hope you feel a little better soon. Joy.

I’ve been on prednisolone for weeks. Now down to 1 tablet per day 5mg. Feeling so much better breathing. However eye pressure has risen and I’m on increased eye drops for glaucoma. My weight is up but I can walk a bit farther and feel better than I have done for a long time. Fat and breathing reasonably well or thin and coughing my insides up? That seems to be the choice so I will stay with the increased weight.
