With tongue firmly in cheek I would like to wish England the very best of luck would like to but nooooooooooooooo I can't because being from one of the celt nations it's the stuff of nightmares, please say this is a bad dream and that England were knocked out in the first round.I'm all shaky nerves a jangle lungs about to explode please my virtual friends say it's not so..seriously all other home nations wish England all the best πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚..yeah right. Now before you all come around to my home and clobber me let me tell 3 big boys held me down and made me write this, anyway just away to hide behind sofa to its all over, your friend in fun Ger

Grrrr67. Shame on ya.πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

Well you have got to support us. Even I would support one of the home countries against the foreign teams! The only exception I would make as a Manchester United fan is I could never cheer on Man City - ever. x

Think watching with the sound down may be a good idea Ger67.

I'm Scottish too and think we should wish the English team "aw the best".

Perhaps easier for me to say, not being a football fan.

Take some deep breaths, wee 'refreshment ' by your side, plus a Tunnocks teacake, maybe some Rescue Remedy and " Jings, Crivvens, Help Ma Boab" you'll get through the 90 minutesπŸ˜±πŸ˜‚

We, living a hundred yards from the English/Welsh border, have to suffer when Wales does well in the rugby, so tough! Mind you, with a Cornish husband, Kernow for ever!

Possibly

Come on Ger, get behind England! What I find frustrating is that 'God Save the Queen' is used for the anthem. This is the national anthem of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Why can't we have a rousing English anthem for when we are competing as England? I'm always jealous when I hear the other home nations singing their anthems in such a rousing way. They have great tunes and the words are about the country and people in question. God Save the Queen doesn't mention the country or the people! On the odd occasion when England have used another anthem e. g. The Commonwealth Games, we can't get behind it because it means nothing to us and most of us don't know the words. It really is time to sort this issue.

I agree: each of the four nations should have their individual anthems, especially when competing in sports, important games etc.

One of the verses in God Save The Queen includes the words 'rebellious Scots to crush' so who standing on a podium wouldn't want to hear our own national anthem. So definitely an English anthem for any English team seems very logical.

Silly me. I thought land of hope and glory was the English anthem and God Save The Queen the British one. 🐹

Not that silly. As Land of Hope and Glory is a much better song. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘
