hi Levina

I would consult your GP first and respiratory specialist. As it is the weekend I would see a pharmacist about your reaction or go to A&E.

Good luck x

Prednisolone tablets also make me feel absolutely awful, I hate to take them. When really poorly I have to accept that it's so necessary in order to get well. This is what I do and it helps so much: have ready at my bedside, glass of water, an oatcake (bread would do), + the tablets, set my alarm for 5am (even 6am if that's easier for you). I'll eat the oatcake, take the tabs and go back to sleep. It really helps my side effects. Hope this helps, try it and if it doesn't then see your doctor.

At times they're a necessary evil, only a week or two and help you get better sooner. I really feel for folks who have to take them all the time.

Steroid inhalers do save lives. They come in different strengths though so do a little research so you can have informed discussions with your doctor. P

Hi Peege. I’m on Prednisolone at the moment. I’m on the last two weeks of taking them. I unfortunately had a bad stomach a couple of weeks before having pneumonia and it’s followed me ever since. I’m in pain all the time with it. I know prednisolone is bad for the stomach and I usually eat three trifle sponge fingers before I take it. Is this what your side effects are? They are cutting me down two at a time which according to some are too much. I started on six, then was cut to four and now I started on two last night for two weeks. It’s all very confusing to me as I’m new to having lung problems apart from mild asthma.

Hiya Mavis, I've noticed you've been going through it recently.

No, it wasn't stomach problems I had with the Prednisolone, it was that I just felt so ill on them plus heart racing and palpitations, the nights being the worst until I began taking them at 5am with a small snack & going back to sleep.

I used to have only mild asthma too. Until my lungs took a nose dive...... Pleurisy followed closely by pneumonia followed by another 4 bouts of pneumonia over about 15 months. It was hell although since the respiratory nurse gave me the pneumonia jab (thoroughly recommend it) I've not had it again thank goodness. Without knowing or understanding my asthma had worsened so therefore not controlled - it took a while to find that out, if only I knew then what I know now, thank you BLF!

Take good care of yourself, do everything you can to rebuild your immune system which will be shot to pieces. P xx

PS try what Bella suggests, ask your GP for the enteric coated pred

Hi Peege. Thanks for your reply. I don’t understand my Dr not giving me the enteric coated ones. They know I’ve had a lot of trouble with my stomach. I didn’t know they did them even.

Since my pneumonia I’ve got other problems. They’ve found something in my blood that suggests I have something wrong with my heart. I’ve got to go for a heart echo to see what it is. The other thing is that when I had a CT scan they found something at the bottom of my lungs. They are thinking maybe ILD. I hope not! I have to wait to see the Consultant to tell me what it is. My Dr said there was something in the blood that suggests I have asthma very bad. But No! I haven’t. There’s nothing worse than not being able to get your breath. That’s how I was the morning I passed out.

I had the pneumonia jab but still got it. Apparently there are lots of different strains you can catch. I was unlucky.

I’m now eating well and I try to eat at least one probiotic yogurt a day. Sometimes two. It’s good for me as I hate milk. If it’s gonna make me feel better I will do it. Let’s see if we can both stay away from pneumonia. Thanks again Peege.

Were the tablets ordinary white Predisolone? They also come in enteric coated form and these might suit you better. You should see your GP or pharmacist about this. Also, taking them with food might help. OH has been on steroids for years and takes Lansoprazole to protect the stomach.

Are you taking prednisone on an empty stomach levina I try not to because if I do i also feel sick I usually find coffee and toast in the morning before meds and not to bad definitely before prednisone I'm on 8 per day 3 month course at the moment then reducing dose..Ger

I have an auto immune lung disease and I am on 10mg "low dose" predisolone. I am NOT happy as I have had pneumonia twice (despite having pneumonia jab), flu (had flu jab) and sinus infection since Christmas. The choice is my lungs get worse and I die of lung fibrosis or I die of pneumonia. What a choice!! What do I do?
