Exercise and 'Days Off'?

I go to Pulmonary Rehab. and walk on a treadmill almost daily. It seems my'performance' declines unless I take a day or two off. I have an Fev-1 of 22% and am still able to function -- but wonder -- besides normal activities -- if I wouldn't be better off to go to a 4 day program or alternate days etc. Just looking for thoughts from others.

Much appreciated

I would try for alternate days casey, and do strength training or resistance training on the days in between, it doesn't have to be too long, just start with low repetitions and build on it. blf.org.uk/support-for-you/...

I mainly do a variety of exercise I find it helps stop the boredom, especially when its ongoing for years on end.

Casey, you have very low lung capacity at 22% the same as me,you don't mention if you use o2 either on long term therapy or like myself for ambulation and exertion,i would recommend either to exercise on alternate days or if you can't bear the idea of not exercising reduce the duration of your sessions by 50%.we both have very limited batteries and they need a good deal of time to re charge, others may differ in their advice but that is what appears to work best for me.i might add that if you do use o2 definitely use it during any exercise routine..........best wishes Ski's and Scruffy cat x

Thanks much --I do use o2 when I exercise --2 liters. Not on LTOT yet -- exercising so I can avoid that -- for as long as is reasonable. Sound advise and appreciated!

I enjoy your posts. It really helps to hear from others who have the same issues and are experiencing relatively the same things.

My best to you and Scruffy cat!

might be worth checking if an increase in your lpm would help,i have 'leapt' from the initial prescription of 2 lpm to 4 in just the last 3 months so if your insurance will cover a re-evaluation of your needs i think it might be a good idea....Ski's and the cat x

Casey, all the best sports scientists, trainers etc etc recommend a day off after cardiovascular exercise, alternate days are best with a bit of resistance training on the other days in between.
