I found All Clear Insurance was about half the price of the others. I have had to have ins for a European cruise. Avanti covered me for my world cruise when nobody else would but it was an arm and a leg. It depends what you want to be covered for besides the health side. As I have never claimed for baggage, possessions or health and have spent thousands on travel insurance I am seriously considering relying on my EHIC card in Europe and topping up from my own money until we can’t use the EHIC any more.

I am sorry to say I have given up on going abroad as the insurance cost is stupid for me now. It is down to pros and cons. If you mention all of the ailments it can be expensive but if you miss any and then have to use them they will not pay out as you did not disclose pre-existing.

The best prices I got was when I googled "pre-existing illness travel insurance"

What is your medical problem? What medication? How old are you?

I have emphysema, I am on 3 different inhalers, Salamol, Spiriva and seretide. I am 59 and on oxygen at home, 3 litres a minute for 16 hours

I hate to say this, but you are going to find travel insurance very expensive. And have you arranged in-flight oxygen with the Airline?

I used Medical travel compared.. It's a comparison site

All Clear has been top find last few times including Canaries.. £30 for two of us, single trip, 7days.

Make sure you take your EHIC with you, too.

If you can go to the Canaries for £30 for two you haven’t declared any illness I have COPD and I’m on Oxygen I need it to fly my cheapest was £1250 with all clear I have gone for a 12 month cover £1500 no one else would insure me

I had prostrate Cancer but have been in remission for over 3 years they want to charge you extra for that the whole lot stinks so I don’t mention the cancer why should I rip off merchants all of them we have got an E1 11 card also European health insurance

When I was travelling abroad I use to mention all my ailments such as BP and the COPD which is due to Emphysema and because I always carry an emergency pack of steroids and antibiotic I have travel insurance that is aware of the COPD but does not cover me for it as I think well if I had a flare up at home I would only have my emergency pack so whats the difference, and fortunately I have never needed them anyway.

I used the Telegraph (daily and Sunday telegraph newspaper)insurance service and was very pleased with both price and quality of policy.

I used the post office, for an annual insurance ,I was surprised at the amount 250pound which I thought was very reasonable., others were quoting 5:50 to 600 pound.

Fish is quite reasonable but wouldn't give an annual insurance, , only 10 days,so please don't give up madmags ,there is definitely some insurance out there you will find reasonable.

All the best 🐘.

I am sorry but I think some of you are not truly insured. Some companies wont insure at all but others say they will, but exclude your declared condition. Do check carefully!

All Clear and World First will both give genuine quotes based on your medical history, but may seem expensive. You have to be realistic if you want to travel without taking risks, alas.

North America, Caribbean and Cruises are probably out. Holidays over 30 or 45 days can be extra.

Last winter, we went to Australia, New Zealand and Thailand for 2 months (family visit). I have Pulmonary Fibrosis, Ischaemic Heart Disease, high BP and genetically high Cholesterol. Insurance was £830, high but worth it in my view.

I went to Jamaica in May and I am insured by my bank but I have to declare my medical history which is Lupus, Pulmonary Fibrosis and high blood pressure. I also use oxygen, I was told I cannot be insured for the lupus and Pulmonary Fibrosis.

I tried several travel insurance companies most said they couldn’t insure me others said £4000. I found a list of travel insurance companies that I was given when I was given the oxygen. I only check out one and they quoted just over a £1000.

Because I had had already booked the holiday I decided to pay the extra for medical disclosures to the company with my bank which was over £200. They put it in writing to remind me I wasn’t insured for the Lupus or Pulmonologist Fibrosis.

We had a great holiday and I was glad I didn’t pay out the money I was asked to. Before I went I had a fit to fly test and I needed 2 litres of oxygen which the airline supplied as they were told in advance upon booking the holiday.

My best rate was £750 for 15 days but it was £750 excess on every treatment there after! So a Blood test ,xray, ct scan could cost me a further £2250 potentialy?

madmags,

Have you tried the BLF site nurses they may be able to suggest a company, someone on this forum did find a company but I can't recall who they were. Initially you have to accept that it may cost a whole lot more than for a fit person. I travel to the adjacent island a lot (Lanzarote) & can't get any insurance for multiple trips. One trip alone could cost me as much as £1800 so I no longer bother to try.
