I'm fuming my medication hospital had me on since January . every time I phone docs for repeat prescription they don't put it through to chemist and I've got a keep phoning it important I take these and was warned if I didn't can get secondary infections which could be worse .chemist actually phoned me today said they hadn't sent prescription over and he knew I'd ordered it twice. Probably because they cost £850 a box chemist has to order them in and I've only enough 1 day only had this problem since doctor s stopped chemist putting repeat prescription in now gota phone surgery I don't no if it's incompetent receptionist or doctors had more CT scans yesterday so hopefully I can be taken off them when see specialist fingers crossed tumours have gone

How unprofessional of them and not very caring , have you tried to order them a week early so as you have them, I know you shouldn't have to but it might help ,good luck

Still don't no if prescription been sent over will have to phone yet again and see as chemist has to order in but I no he's already done that for me and he just waiting for prescription so he can deliver them but doctor doesn't know that don't no what's going onthere

I would ask to speak to the practice manager first of all and ask them to sort it out. This should be wasy because your consultant wants you to have them and I presume there is a letter on file at the practice. If this doesn’t work begin the complaint procedure. This usually concentrates their minds.

Yes there's letters off specialist problem is I don't no if it's receptionist fault or doctors I did finally get them but had non at all these tablets you take same time 12 hrs apart and can't eat 3 hrs befor so I waited al day no food till I got them now timing all out as I take 11 am and 11 p now gota take 4 am 4pm

It is the practice manager’s job to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that patients are getting what they need. Hopefully if you speak to your practice manager they should find out why this is not happening for you and put it right.

Hi

Could it be a controlled drug? I use Oramorph which is a controlled drug and can not be sent electronically to chemist, I have to collect and sign for prescription.

I have Oramorph and they send mine through to the chemists

Not controlled drug. Just very rarely prescribed and cost £850 28tablets

How frustrating Gillian and it really needs sorting out.

Pete has no trouble with all the drugs he takes. I usually collect them for him and only have to sign for tramadol.

Good luck to you. Xxxx

My chemist used to order and deliver mine but that's changed you gota phone and order yourself now and that's when problems started I get tramadol amitriptyline no bother been on them for years just this one tablet

I'm wondering if the doctor has actually put it on the official repeat list. Have you checked this?

Infuriating. They have started doing that at my surgery. I was cross as I didn’t know anything about it until a neighbour who has just joined the surgery (her’s is no longer) showed me a leaflet. It will apparently take 7 days. So I took it down and politely complained that as I had not been informed I would have run out of essential medication. She tried to assure me that they would have given me an emergency prescription but I pointed out it wouldn’t make any difference how urgently they produced a prescription as it is a hospital directed medication which the pharmacy has to order as it does not normally stock it. There was a supervisor and she said to put me on some sort of code, which means I can carry on ordering from my pharmacy and they will order electronically and deliver.

I hope they get this sorted out quickly for you. This system really isn’t patient friendly.

Cx

Ooh! Gillian it's a Nightmare! So many places the same. It took me 4 days to get emergency Ant Bs n Steriods for a bad Chest infection. 1st they hadn't got the prescription, through from Docs, then they hadn't got the right type. I had to walk the 0,7 Mile twice ,in order to get them. As I don't trust em to deliver. Could easily have landed up in A n E. Not funny.😟

It has happened to us several times. Once I had been chasing my prescription for emergency meds for several days , within 10 Minuits of my husband finally bringing them i was waiting for an ambulance , he had called surgery and was told to ring 999 by GP. I now phone pharmacy to check they have been sent through, if not they will loan us any meds we almost run out of.

Dubba61 profile image

Not good enough is it? N yes, I shall have to try ringing 1st. Live alone, so no one to help me. 😊✌️🌻

It makes the blood boil Gillian, this new faster electronic system it is still quicker to see a doctor and get a paper prescription. I know controlled drugs like tramadol & morphine can't go electronic have to be signed for. I was told to order them a week earlier and have them delivered but that means you have to be home for delivery which does not always fit in with other appointments. There is no simple solution, we just have to put up with the inconvenience. Hope yoou are sorted by now.

I've never signed or had any problems. Get in tramadol I've been on them years I didn't no was controlled drug

I'm housebound anyway just recently I started have odd day out

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply to Gillian1234

Well now you have learn't something new about prescriptions, Tramadol are a class 2 drug that has to be signed for I think but could be class three controlled drug.

Gillian1234 profile image
Gillian1234 in reply to katieoxo60

If you have word with chemist as to times ur home they will deliver then. Ours is brilliant other week when doc hadn't sent prescription for me he already ordered it in and came to mine on a sat with enough last me over weekend till he got prescription sent over

Some chemists do try to help, it is very difficult when you are housebound I have some freinds like that. The system does not work for everyone, I am in one Thursday then out the next at Physio, I help to run a group for widows every Wednesday, and sometimes do theatre trips and outings for them besides other things to do with older peoples needs and Arthritis groups. But I do manage the prescription system but on occassions it fails for many including myself. Take care
