Hope somebody can help?!
My mum flew out to Cyprus on Tuesday and decided not to take oxygen despite being advised to. She had major problems pretty much straight away, went blue and had to be greeted with a wheelchair.
I am now desperately trying to find oxygen for her flight back on Saturday
I have tried Pure O2 who unfortunately do not deliver to outside of the UK
Any suggestions?

Sorry your Mum is poorly. It has been very dusty here in Cyprus the past few weeks which does not help my breathing! I have used linde.com.cy in the past and they seem to deliver everywhere on the island. I'm unsure you'll get any for the flight back from them though. Perhaps contacting the airline regarding oxygen for the homeward journey might help your mum.
Hi. Does she have travel insurance? She could visit a doctor in Cyprus and get them to declare that she needs oxygen for the flight home and have it provided by the insurance. Ring the insurance company to investigate...

Hi Hun , oh dear your mums a silly girl could of killed her !!! , I fly with oxygen have my own small concentrator , but I'm always have to have a fit to fly note off my Dr , and insurance , some airlines will provide oxygen but it's expensive , try phoning British Lung Foundation they are so helpful and do their best to sort things out ,also if you phone the airline she's flying with they should help , good luck Hun and I'm sure you will soon have your mum home safe and sound ,let us know how you go on xxx
Contact the airline, I’d think they’d be the only ones that can help at such short notice. Be prepared to pay though. I wouldn’t think any insurance company would help as she travelled out without oxygen against medical advice.
I've tried Oxygen Worldwide they don't provide for flights and the airline have said no thing I may have to book flights with an airline that do provide it?!
When an aeroplane flies it reduces the cabin pressure to circa 2,000 meters equivalent, reducing the Oxygen to a much lower state than sea level.
I go to Morroco every year to enjoy the warm dry air and it takes at least 48 hours before my breathing recovers from the flight. After that I am fine and my breathing improves because of the weather there.
I think I read somewhere that some airlines will give you extra Oxygen during the flight (provided you explain your condition to them), which means you are not suffering so much after the flight.
I think tui provide oxygen, but don't think ins will pay if she was advised to take it , I'm getting a portable concentrator soon , so will be able to fly again , but I'm sure tui provide oxygen I did hear it was free , but you need to ask them good luck hope your mum is ok
I went to Jamaica in May and I had to have a fit to fly test done at my Respiratory Centre before I book the holiday so I know how much oxygen I would need in flight and I book with Tui who gave me the oxygen 2litres per minute for free. They will accommodate two people with o2 on the aircraft.
I was told the fit to fly test and certificate have to be within 30 days of flying so I had to have another one done. I was able to take my portable concentrator on board and the Stewards were very helpful, they told me They had 4 cylinders of O2 for me and was there with the changes when I requested it.
I'm not sure if any of the airlines will provide the oxygen without written request from medical professionals.

Hi, would you be able to describe exactly what the fit to fly test involves? Thanks in advance.
You sit in the room and your oxygen level is monitored and you are given a mask to breathe in a mixture of gas resembling the oxygen pressure present in an aircraft for up to 30 minutes.
My oxygen saturation rate starts to drop and my body starts to ache along with feeling light headed and nauseas.
I was told to take the mask off (this was after a few minutes). My blood gas was taken and I was given 2 litres of oxygen and I was told I could put the mask on again. I felt so much better, I started talking to the Physiologists who were doing the test. My oxygen level remain stable and did not drop so was the blood gas taken after I was on the oxygen.
Doctors cannot know how you will feel on a aircraft and so it’s best to have the test done if you have lung disease. I do use ambulatory oxygen and I gave up traveling by aircraft 2010 because I felt so ill each time that was pre oxygen use.

I hope you manage to get your Mum back safely. Ì was just refused permission to fly by my consultant today. Ì have COPD but I also retain carbon dioxìde. My sats only ever read 82 to 86 normally. My arterial bloods alwaýs test a lot lower so on Frìday they sadĺy did read lower and I did not even get to the oxygen test. Ì had booked flights before diagnosis but as it's to Jersey the ferry is now going to be the only mode of transport.
That's such a shame! We flew to Spain last year with TUI 2 weeks after she was in hospital her O2 was 74 got it up a little however she was cleared to fly I requested oxygen from airline but they never gave us it fortunately was only a 2hr flight! She is on a nebulizer but she forgotten to take that too it's a nightmare my dad's taking her to the docs tomorrow so see what they say I haven't been able to get oxygen for the flight and the airline isn't helping at all!
Many Airlines, including British Airways, do not provide oxygen for short or mid haul flights. But nearly all Airlines allow the use of portable air concentrators, after the traveller has provided advance documentation of fitness to fly. My only practical suggestion which may assist in this very difficult situation is to seek advice from the British High Commission in Nicosia. Telephone 357 22 861100
Oh no THU do provide the oxygen you're not allowed to take you're own on board they just didn't provide it! I arranged it all weeks in advance with fit to fly everything required but nothing

The TUI website says "Unfortunately, you can't bring your own oxygen either in the hold or in the cabin, but you can pre-book our onboard oxygen for your flight. Alternatively, you can bring an oxygen concentrator. Call our Customer Welfare Team before you travel to make arrangements."

Contact TUI urgently!
She flew with Easy jet this time the post your referring to is when I was explaining last year I flew with TUI requested oxygen and it wasn't supplied?!
The EasyJet policy about oxygen is:
"Medical oxygen
With the exception of emergency situations we do not provide supplementary oxygen. Small compressed air or oxygen cylinders are permitted in hand baggage for personal medical use only. Please note that they must not exceed 0.5 metres in length, with a maximum diameter of 250 mm.
You will need a medical certificate confirming the cylinders are required for medical reasons and that you are fit to fly. You are permitted to carry a maximum of 2 cylinders and they must be placed in the overhead locker or under the seat. If you are carrying oxygen cylinders please tell the cabin crew when you are boarding.
Oxygen concentrators (either mains or battery powered) are permitted on board and medical certification is required. Batteries will have to be used if you need oxygen on board (be sure the batteries have enough power for the duration of the trip, including possible delays).
Chemical oxygen generators are not permitted."

I know my point is I can't obtain oxygen for a return flight one way from Cyprus?!
could any family member hire a portable o2 concentrator and fly to cyprus and return with your mother?just a bit of lateral thinking or have one air freighted over.......regards Ski's and scruffsx
Depends who she flew with some airlines provide free oxygen on a flight (tui) is one but it has to be arranged.
Yes that's my only option she's gone to hospital in Cyprus now so will see what the outcome is! Thanks everyone for your help xx

Hi I will very soon be on my way to Lanzarote and have the same oxygen problem as your mother. Have you tried to make contact with the airline direct, many carry oxygen for the needy. Meanwhile her UK provider should be able to suggest a local provider in Cyprus where she can hire the equipment she needs unfortunately she will have to pay for it, it won't come without a charge.

I haven't been able to get any for the flight the airline don't provide it unless it's an emergency! The hospital said she has bronchitis too now so she has a steroid inhaler and anti biotics which should build her back up her o2 had only dropped to 85 she's normally 89 ish so not as bad as expected they said if she struggles mid flight they will provide oxygen just 1L though as it counter acts the CO2

I have to pay for any oxygen equipment or supply abroad. The UK provider can set this up for me. Try an emergency number 03000 030555.for some info.
My local provider is Dolby Vivisol 0800 833531.

Hi, Yes if you have any contact telephone numbers would like to explore the possibility of oxygen abroad. Will be going to Lanzarote in August & October and will need some help over there. Thanks for the tip.
