Hi, I am a newbie

Hi everyone, I have just received the results from my yearly low-dose screening CAT scan which reveals stable underlying emphysema. I have smoked for 45+ years...started young and I am 61 now. I quit smoking as soon as I read the results and I am beyond scared and confused! I have been perusing multiple sites and cannot find that terminology. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't have an appointment with my doctor until the end of June. I love this site :)

Thanks soooo much! It's a lonely path for me right now for me as I have only shared with my closest.

I have no medical training so would suggest you learn as much as you can about emphysema and then make sure you have a list of questions for your doctor. :)

I'm glad there is still humor when suffering from the initial shock. Some times it is hard to laugh....if you know what I mean :(

Hi Jeanne and Welcome, I think Mrsmummy meant for you to make a list of Questions that you want to ask your Doctor, we have all done this from time to time. Good Luck. xxx

Hello jeanne1125, and a very warm welcome to our forum. You can be yourself on here because you are amongst people that know what you are going through and want to offer you support and friendship. I too have Emphaseama and Bronchiectusis and I am on a nebuliser and pumps for it plus tablets. All I can say at this moment in time is as you are stable which means the doctor is not overly concerned at this time but will monitor your condition as time goes on. You gave up smoking, that's brilliant, that's the main thing. Take care and please stay Intouch with us? ✋️😉

Jeanne1125, welcome. I do not have COPD and never have, my mother had it and that was why I joined. I was her advocate and frequently spoke with her doctor on her behalf. I don't believe you're on death's door by US standards or any other. Stable usually means that underlying disease is just that stable and not advancing-- at least not right now. I think it is important to find out what your numbers are ( lung function test), to find out what stage of disease you are at. By quitting smoking you took the first and most important step.

Warm Welcome to you Jeanne1125,

My story is similar, CT scan looking for gallbladder problems, well, the gallbladder was fine....the lungs, mild emphysemous changes.

You will find the most warm, wonderful, and knowledgeable people here. They are a great group!!

No smoking!! Eat healthy food and exercise...exercise.... exercise, keep active!!

Take good care,

Meg

Hi there. This website is great for emotional support and information. I would also suggest you join the Mayo Clinic support group...mayoclinic.connect...and National Jewis Hospital..you need information to advocate for yourself and what to do to keep it from progressing ie pulmonary texts, sputum test, X-rays to monitor you...there is so much information out there... I have Bronchiectasis, and MAC, MAI...it's a shock at first, but it's normal to feel frightened...that fear gets better when you get the information you need...lots of luck...ps I'm from Toronto✌️🙏
