budesonide inhaler and sore throat and not very effective does anybody else have issues with this inhaler

Good if used with a bronchodilator..do you have one? And you need to rinse, gargle and even eat something or brush your teeth afterwards...now if you have a sore throat you may have oral thrush I would get a check up.

Also take the opportunity to talk to your GP about your inhaler.

i do brush teeth afterwards and gargle but throughout the day my throat just drys up and becomes sore its possible i have thrush ,shall have to see the doc.

i do use my ventolin first thing do you find to use it before or after the budesonide for best effect?

Many medics will say it doesnt matter, but lots of people use ventolin first as it's designed to open up the airways quickly, making it easier for the preventative inhalers to get further down.

I have used Pulmicort for approx 6 months. I take mine alongside a bronchodilator (Duaklir Genuair). I don't have sore throat but have always wondered if it's actually helping because I don't feel any difference after taking it. I never get review of my medication and feel as if different inhalers should be tried (under supervision) to see what suits the individual better.......

Hi Dedalus - Pulmicort is a steroid inhaler, so you won't feel any direct or immediate benefit from taking it. It is a tiny dose of steroid delivered straight to your lungs that helps suppress any inflammation in there. It does give a slight sore throat at times, but not all the while. If you stop taking it you get a very 'raw' feeling in your lungs for a few days, so then you recognise that it was doing something.

Wow - thanks for that - very helpful. Do you have any idea why after 6 months I still get tremors after taking the Duaklir Genuair (it was much worse when they first gave me this inhaler on leaving hospital, but I was told to persevere!). The tremors aren't visible, but more 'internal'. They aren't imagined, sponsor the pulmonary nurses suggested in the beginning!!! Still wonder if this inhaler is the best one for me, due to the tremors, even though they have lessened after 6 months.

Dedalus, I agree with trying different medications. For a while I thought none of them helped. Now, I'm beginning to think that Symbicort and Ventolin do help and that it might be the Spiriva that's worthless. Let me stress that I'm not certain of this, and of course I don't know much about anything. It's just that yesterday I used only my Symbicort and did a bunch of housework, drove out for groceries and took a 4-mile walk (in 92-degree Gulf Coast heat) with no problem. At least no bad breathing problem. I was a little weary after the walk, but I walk pretty regularly. Anyway, I digress. Back to inhalers. I think I would like to try something other than Spiriva, even though I know it's a very popular medication with lung docs on both sides of the pond. Has anybody else ever felt Spiriva was not for them?

It is a problem and I often wonder why I was given inhaler over another. In order to get more replies about your spiriva question it would be better to create a separate post about it, as it'll just get lost in the replies etc to this original post.

HI challny, I was given a new Spiriva about 7 weeks ago...the one that has a very fine mist spray....it made me cough so much I was given Incruse instead. First 2 days taking that once a day was amazing as I was able to move about much more than had become normal for me but alas on the 3 red day and since I am back to square one lurching about .

What is your experience with the Spiriva ?

My experience with Spiriva is just that I don't think it's doing much for me. I also use the fine mist one, called a Respimat. It doesn't make me cough and I don't notice any side effects. I just feel like it's not doing anything. I feel like Symbicort and Ventolin actually help with my breathing, which is not that terribly bad to begin with, but any SOB at all is terribly bothersome, as I'm sure everyone knows.
