We have been considering moving up near family in Castle Douglas in Scotland. I am 75 Years old and have COPD. Can anyone tell me what the care is like up there and is there a respiratory nurse service, also pulmonary rehab groups as I have found all this very useful.

I would be grateful for any information that I can get to help me make a decision. Thanks

Hi Locococco

Thanks so much for getting back to me. As you know care for us with Emphysema is very important, and I am obviously worried that the care I get here may not be continued if we move but your reply has eased my mind. Again thanks

Thanks again for your help.

Hi ... I'm in Tayside area covered by Dundee 9wells and Angus resp svcs. Pulmanory rehab is first class as are all the other services . I have respiratory nurse in my local health centre as well as respiratory liaison at 9wells who deals with oxygen and everything associated with it.

Why not check out what is available in Castle Douglas area so you will know for sure what respiratory help they provide?

Good luck what ever you decide :))

You're very welcome Libragirl. I'm guessing you have already been up for a visit with your family and so you will know Scotland has stunning scenery and the further North you go the better it gets. Absolutely breathtaking even in the rain lol.....we do get it sunny too sometimes!

All the best. :))

Hi Annastatia

I as born in Edinburgh, but have been down south for many years. My daughter and her family are moving up near Castle Douglas, and we have thought of following them. My COPD is reasonably severe, but i have attended pulmonary rehab which is very helpful, and my resp nurse is very good too. We have quite a big decision to make as you can imagine!! Thanks for your helpful comments
