Dumb question. I am on oxg. At night, how helps you to deside when you need oxg all the time. Can't breath when it's hot outside. When is it time to go on oxg. All the time any suggestions

You would need to be advised by your GP or consultant. It could be helpful to speak to a BLF nurse. The helpline is open Monday to Friday from 10 - 5. When you ring on 03000 030 555 they will take details and then a nurse will call you back as soon as they can.

Hi

When or how long you need oxygen and at what flow rate, can only be decided by the appropriate assessment.

Aterial blood gases test for long term oxygen therapy, or by six minute walk test for Ambulitory oxygen.

Like many others with or without oxygen you appear to be feeling the effects of the heat,

Try and stay in shaded area, you can purchase little battery operated fans, some also have built in water mist.

In the home a electric fan with a cool function is a bonus.

That’s what i’am using a this moment, first floor flat south facing, bit of a greenhouse effect.

Remember that oxygen is not given to treat breathlessness but to protect your major organs from damage due to low oxygen saturations. Calling up the BLF helpline is a good idea.

I find a plant mister helps me stay cool :)

Only your oxygen levels in your blood decide when u will need oxygen full time as it's not so much your breathing that decides oxygen usage ... obviously your short of breath but I was for few years although my oxygen was fine so never needed oxygen then ....I only started needing it when I got type 2 resp failure for the 1st time and although I had used oxygen here and there I quickly needed to be on it 24/7 ... That is due to me having a very rare progressive lung disease.Try not to worry your resp nurse or Dr will know when you need to ...remember a fan is brilliant to help with shortness of breath ...good luck xMel x

Whilst agreeing to all the other replies, my hubby keeps an eye on his oxygen levels. This hot spell hasnt helped. Earlier this year he went to Pulmanory rehab via his doctor/or Pulmanory nurse..referal. This realy helped as they had exercises, as well as advise. It did help. I sugest you speak to your Pulmanory team and they can give you another walk test. Good luck with it all x

Yes exercise helps but unfortunately I have done the PR twice and exercise is really good to get you fit safe but it didn't help with my shortness of breath ...lots of people benefit from PR ...plus it's good to speak to others who have lung problems ...must say the people on my course where 25 years plus older than me and would take it in turns getting my drink at break (Lovely people ) xxx
