The Wedding. (3)

This is what I finally wore

On this special day.

Jumping in a taxi

I made my happy way.

I arrived on time, what did I find,

A photographer waiting there,

To record the people who’d been invited

By the loving pair.

The ceremony was moving,

The knot tied as they do.

Reminded me of sixty years,

When I got knotted too.

The Wedding Breakfast followed

Poached salmon was for me.

By the time we got that

I’m usually having tea.

Then we had the speeches

I sat keeping quiet.

The groom read out a poem I wrote

I can’t claim it caused a riot.

By now I had begun to wilt,

At early evening time.

My button-hole was a nice white rose,

But a dandelion came to mind.

My breathing got move difficult,

Humidity was quite high.

I thought if I’m going to kick it,

This is not the place to die!

And so I left reluctantly,

My nephew and new wife.

Wishing them my very best

For a long and happy life.

You look really nice Don. 😀 I'm glad you had a good day , although I know how humidity wreaks havoc with being able to breathe. Have a lovely rest. xx 🌻

Wow Don you really look the part. So pleased the sun was shining and you had a grand old time. Good job you went off home before your rose wilted and you had time to put pen to paper. Jane.

Morning Don. You look so handsome for your nephews wedding. Yes, I know the feeling, recently at my Nieces Christening, she's a Toddler, and about 100 people where invited, ......They all had Toddlers....I wilted with the noise, but loved every minute. Home is the best place to relax, cuppa Tea, and put pen to paper. Thanks Don on this Lovely Hot bank Holiday Monday. Love n Hugs XXXXXXX

Very dapper Don, a nice turnout. Myself, I would look ridiculous in a whistle and flute.

You look just right, I know the nephew is very special to you, as are you to him. What a fabulous day. Could you post the poem you wrote for him or is it too personal?

Love

Kate xxx

in reply to Katinka46

Kate Luv, if I wrote a poem to my nephew he would think i was losing my marbles and tell me not to be ............. daft! But you are right about him being special, he was a great help to me when my son Philip died so far away from from home 6 years ago. Don xx

I’m so glad you had a good, if a little tiring, day at your family wedding. I think you made the right decision over what to wear! I hope you’ve recovered from your busy day now.

That was lovely Don and you looked very smart indeed. We just haven't got the staying power for long events now have we. I bet you slept well though ! Sheila xx

in reply to mskpjb

Thank you, you are right about the staying power. The noise and crowds wear me out even before the the breathing problem starts. I’m certainly no party animal anymore, if I ever was. 😢

thank you - you look very dapper may I say, well done take care xxx

in reply to undine

Thank you. I looked up ‘dapper’ in the dictionary since it’s been used quite a lot. It said “probably from a Middle Low German or Middle Dutch word meaning ‘strong, stout’.

So they got one out of two right. 😉

not the meaning I meant - have just looked it up myself to check and get' (of a man) neat and trim in dress and appearance.

"he looked very dapper in a dark silk suit"

synonyms:smart, spruce, trim, debonair, neat, tidy, neat and tidy, crisp, well dressed, besuited, well groomed, well turned out, smartly dressed, elegant, chic, dashing;

in reply to undine

I know you didn't Luv x. But the version you quote didn't sound like me at all. lol
