BREATHING PROBLEMS

Hi all, got back from hospital last night after one of those all familiar breathing problems that all of us have to endure. It started last Friday, sitting here feeling strange because my arms were tingly and I kept gasping for breath, my husband said are you ok, no I feel a bit weird, doing my breathing excersise but I couldn't get it right. Then got up to go to the toilet, then I just lost it and panicked, my poor hubby was doing what he could to calm me and then rang 999. Well paramedic was here within minutes and ambulance crew, after a few questions I was on my way to hospital. To cut a long story short, I had blood tests, and exray and usual sats tests and was kept in, blood pressure too low, heart rate too high, exray just showing lungs really bad. Anyway now back at home with five boxes of steroids to use over next few weeks knocking one out each week. I tell you what, you cannot sleep in hospital at all, so much noise and each time you doze off your woken up for sats tests, nice to be home. πŸ€”

in reply to Stumpy55

30mg is ok, but I suppose being in hospital you got loads of meds and not much sleep as you said so you need to recover from that ordeal!

Cats are good friends 😸

Thank you. Have a good evening, feet up and no dusting πŸ˜ƒπŸ’•

Yes I was on other stuff as well as steroids in hospital, and you don't get any rest in hospital but I did meet some really nice people in the same place as me so it was good to talk. Barney was offish with me at first but then he walked over frowning and then jumped up on my lap purring and snuggling bless him. Forgiven for leaving him lol. Absolute no dusting for me lol. Take care of yourself βœ‹οΈπŸ™‚

Good to know you met some nice people. I also find it comforting chatting with other patients when I am in. So Barney was offish at first..πŸ˜ƒ Aria does that. It took her quite a while after I was away 3 weeks with my eyes, now she is eating croquettes out of my hand again!

Thank you and have a good night xx

Glad you're home now Stumpy. Yes I agree about the noise in hospital and now the steroids are going to ruin your sleep at home. Guess you'll just have to doze during the day ! Take care, Sheila x

Hi mskpjb, Thankyou yes I am glad to be home and relieved I can breath a lot easier now. The steroids don't ruin my sleep at all, I'm lucky there, I know they affect a lot of people's sleep Thoe. But in hospital I didn't get any sleep at all, it bugs me a bit. Still I shouldn't really complain the staff on my ward were really good. You take care as well 😊xx

Glad you're home and feeling a little better stumpy ! 😁 my husband is like yours, tries to make light of all the serious stuff and make a joke of it! I'm fine, thanks. Just found out yesterday that I can't climb Bulkeley Hill quite the way I used to 12 years ago! It was lovely up there, with the warm sun dappling through the trees, and a great view of Cheshire, though the Welsh hills were a little more hazy.

So sorry to hear you've been so unwell. Hope the rest at home will soon get you back on your feet. You are right about not being able to sleep in hospital. Last time I was in, they brought in a woman in the middle of the night and did nothing quietly. She turned out to have mental health problems and didn't stop talking! Still, it was all quite entertaining - better than the tele! Just didn't get any sleep.

Look after yourself - you'll soon be whizzing round with all those steroids inside you! xx Moy

Do you have access to a community matron? We have had one for about six months now and have found her very helpful. With the support of this service OH has only had to go into hospital once and that was for a couple of days for intravenous medication and was planned. He came home and continued with the IV antibiotic at home. He was regularly in and out of hospital as an emergency and it was very stressful.

Stumpy55 profile image
Stumpy55 in reply to Bella395

Hello Bella395, yes I do have nurses coming in to check on my sats and to see if I need anything and I must say they are brilliant team. Trouble was last Friday everything happened so fast and my son was here, I didn't feel right and the next thing was my arms went heavy followed by breathing difficulties so he phoned the 999. Anyway I have it under control now with steroids and my nurse is coming in tomorrow. I hope your husband is feeling better now 🀞it is very stressful for patients and their families your right. Take care 🌹😊

I hope you feel better soon ! I felt unwell last Tuesday just very sluggish and breathless so knew something was lurking so I opened my emergency pack of steroids and antibiotics-the steroids are good but the side effects are awful - I get the shakes too plus insomnia and feelings of doom and gloom but I’m starting to turn the corner today I have been having steam inhalation with oil of olbas because I can’t cough up what is lurking in my lungs it’s awful. Have muco tablets too but this time it’s taking longer to shift. Get well soon my lovely x

in reply to pepparuby1

Hi pepparruby those are the exact same symptoms that I have and steroid side effects plus this amazing fatigue because of bronchiectasis an appointment at 4pm tomorrow and diddent know how to describe symptoms so your post has been a big help thanks Ger..every cloud has a silver lining ect ect lol

It’s really hard for me to know if I’m having an exasperation or chest infection- I’ve often gone to the gp M.D. said I think I’ve got something coming - the gp listens to my chest and says it’s clear!?!?! How come I say and then a few days later I’m exhausted lethargic sluggish and tired. I don’t look ill either. The cough rarely comes until later if I’m lucky!

Hi there pepparuby1, yes Thankyou I'm feeling a better now. I'm on 30mils of steroids per day to be tapered down by one each week. My shakes are still with me but my breathing is a lot better thank goodness. I think we all know when something dosnt feel right you just know your own body more than any doctor I think. Have you got bronchiectusis? If so my doctor put me on Carbasisteen capsules and that has helped me cough up the phlegm on my chest. The tablet s losten it all up. I hope you feel better soon 🀞🌹

hello stumpy55. I can truly relate to not getting any rest in the hospital. lol. I had a flair up bout three weeks ago and was in the hospital for 6 days. They gave me everything but rest. Between the needles and blood pressure, breathing treatments, etc. there is no such thing as rest. We have to thank God for the doctors and all that they do for us but don't they know that we need rest? lol Well take care stumpy55, and I pray that you got the treatment you needed. First I was in A and E, then after three hours I was put onto medical ward having more tests, and finally onto a proper ward and this was 2.30am . And this team of nurses wanted to do sats and ask all the old questions "are you anything ? To which I replied "yes lack of sleep" I stayed awake chatting with other patients that were woken up by me . Anyway I feel so much better now Thankyou again. XπŸ™‚
