Hi all, got back from hospital last night after one of those all familiar breathing problems that all of us have to endure. It started last Friday, sitting here feeling strange because my arms were tingly and I kept gasping for breath, my husband said are you ok, no I feel a bit weird, doing my breathing excersise but I couldn't get it right. Then got up to go to the toilet, then I just lost it and panicked, my poor hubby was doing what he could to calm me and then rang 999. Well paramedic was here within minutes and ambulance crew, after a few questions I was on my way to hospital. To cut a long story short, I had blood tests, and exray and usual sats tests and was kept in, blood pressure too low, heart rate too high, exray just showing lungs really bad. Anyway now back at home with five boxes of steroids to use over next few weeks knocking one out each week. I tell you what, you cannot sleep in hospital at all, so much noise and each time you doze off your woken up for sats tests, nice to be home. 🤔
BREATHING PROBLEMS: Hi all, got back... - British Lung Foun...
You must be so glad to be back. Hope the steroids do their job.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery
Welcome home Stumpy, just in time to enjoy this beautiful weather, sit back, relax let hubby pamper you a little and enjoy the peace and quiet and comfort of your own bed tonight and let those steroids bolster your system over the coming days and restore you to your usual chirpy happy go lucky self that we all enjoy............Ski's and a hot Scruffy cat xx
Speedy recovery xx
Good you're home again, hope you'll feel better very soon!
Thankyou Robin77, it's good to home. Only thing is I have the shakes quite bad, I reckon it's the steroids, but at least my breathing is easier so I would sooner that. Hope your enjoying this gorgeous weather. Take care xx🙂
Take care, and absolutely no dusting! ☺ What an awful way to start the holiday weekend.
Sorry to hear your so poorly pleased your back home i hope you'll soon feel a lot better take care wishing a speedy recovery. Majt🌺🌹🌸🍇
Thankyou Majt, I'm a lot better now. I have the shakes quite bad, my husband said "don't waste it I'le give you a duster ha!ha! the little sod. Hope you are enjoying this lovely weather. Take care xx🙂
Glad you are home 🏡 🌸x
Thankyou Happylondon, yes I am pleased to be back home. I have the shakes quite bad, hubby said hang on I'le give you a duster lol, he don't miss a trick lol. I hope you are enjoying this glorious weather? xx☺️
You are welcome.. ahhh poor you, maybe the steroids..are you on a high daily dosage? I hope you have your GP follow-up appointment? If not worth checking.
Nice to have a hubby with a sense of humour 😃
Take good care of yourself xx
Yes I think your right, I'm on 30mils of steroid for one week and then taper down. Oh yes my hubby is a sausy little sod at the best of times lol, but he's one of the best as well. I get more sence out of my cat Barney lol. Take care of yourself xx
30mg is ok, but I suppose being in hospital you got loads of meds and not much sleep as you said so you need to recover from that ordeal!
Cats are good friends 😸
Thank you. Have a good evening, feet up and no dusting 😃💕
Yes I was on other stuff as well as steroids in hospital, and you don't get any rest in hospital but I did meet some really nice people in the same place as me so it was good to talk. Barney was offish with me at first but then he walked over frowning and then jumped up on my lap purring and snuggling bless him. Forgiven for leaving him lol. Absolute no dusting for me lol. Take care of yourself ✋️🙂
Good to know you met some nice people. I also find it comforting chatting with other patients when I am in. So Barney was offish at first..😃 Aria does that. It took her quite a while after I was away 3 weeks with my eyes, now she is eating croquettes out of my hand again!
Thank you and have a good night xx
Thankyou as well, really nice chatting with you Fran. Take care xx😊
Hi Stumpy glad your back home , loaded up with steroids and hubby pampering you , wow you'll soon be back on your feet. Xxxx
It must have been awful for you Stumpy, but pleased you're now back home. Made me laugh your husband putting your shakes to good use. Hope you feel better soon. Lilian xxxxxx
Hope you’re on the mend soon Stumpy and pleased you are home again. Love and hugs. Xxx 😘💖❤️
Hello Stumpy55. Hope things are getting better for you. You look after yourself and best of luck for the future. Best wishes. 👍🤓
Glad you're home now Stumpy. Yes I agree about the noise in hospital and now the steroids are going to ruin your sleep at home. Guess you'll just have to doze during the day ! Take care, Sheila x
Hi mskpjb, Thankyou yes I am glad to be home and relieved I can breath a lot easier now. The steroids don't ruin my sleep at all, I'm lucky there, I know they affect a lot of people's sleep Thoe. But in hospital I didn't get any sleep at all, it bugs me a bit. Still I shouldn't really complain the staff on my ward were really good. You take care as well 😊xx
Hi Stumpy, how scary that must have been for you...your hubby sounds like a superstar to have stayed so calm and supportive😊. I know what you mean about hospitals...they are temples of insomnia😉. Rest up now, take your meds and let everyone around you take good care of you...Sending you hugs and good wishes x Anne x
Glad you're home and feeling a little better stumpy ! 😁 my husband is like yours, tries to make light of all the serious stuff and make a joke of it! As I speak he's out in the garden laughing his head off with my son around the fire pit and grandsons - it's a pity I can't join in but you know the smoke from the fire etc, etc, etc! Boring!
Oh no, dear Stumpy55 .
How very awful for you. I hope you feel better very soon. Home is really the best place to rest. Hospitals are just too bustly. 😑
Sending lots of love and gentle hugs.
Cas xx 🌹
Hello Cas and Thankyou, yes it was very scary but I feel a lot better now, I have the shakes quite bad but I think it's the steroids. Still I would sooner the shakes than can't breathe, we all know what that's like. I hope you are keeping well Cas? Take care of yourself ✋️😉
Hope the steroids soon get you back on your feet . Bet you sleep well in your own bed.
Hello Joyce74, yes the steroids are working Thankyou, I feel a lot better today and nice to be home, no place like it. I'm sleeping better as well, you can't do that in hospital Joyce it's impossible. Hope you are keeping well? ✋️😊
Good the steroids are working. I had a scan on stomach area last week result due Thursday and awaiting appointment to see an endocrinologist. After having blood tests monthly 3 times. Told probably hormone problem . I keep falling asleep and have bouts of pins and needles not worrying about it should find out soon. Hope you managed to get out in the lovely sunshine 🌞
Theres no place like home 😊
Hope you had a better night in your own bed there's nothing I like your own. The funny feeling and twitchy arms caught my attention I get these funny feelings never know if it's my a.f or emphysema. Enjoy the sunshine. Jane
Hello chubby2x22, yes I had a good nights sleep Thankyou. I have the shakes but think it's steroids causing it. I feel a little breathless still but nothing like I was last Friday. My hubby is cooking a nice roast today and then out in the garden , it's gorgeous weather. You take care of yourself xx✋️🙂
Get well soon, Stumpy. Yes, it's so much easier to sleep at home than in hospital.
Hello Ergend, Thankyou, I had a good nights sleep last night, in hospital it's impossible to sleep, I think you stand more chance on a moterway. Hope you are keeping well? ✋️🙂
I'm fine, thanks. Just found out yesterday that I can't climb Bulkeley Hill quite the way I used to 12 years ago! It was lovely up there, with the warm sun dappling through the trees, and a great view of Cheshire, though the Welsh hills were a little more hazy.
Hope you start to feel better soon x x x
Hi Shirley, Thankyou, I still feel a little breathless but compared to last Friday that's nothing. The shakes are still there, last night I picked up my cup of tea and shook it all over my poor old cat bless him, he jumped down off my lap and refuses to come back. I hope all is well with youxx✋️😊
Hope you're feeling better soon Stumpy. Am sure the steroids will kick in soon, if they haven't already xx
Glad your Home Hun, This was me 2016 exactly the same, I've been on Azithromycin ever since its the Best long term Antibiotic, only one small Exacerbation in March 2018, so two years free of a 999 call. I just go every 3 months for check ups while I'm on the transplant List. Keep Well, Breathe and Exercise . Love n Hugs , Carolina XXXXX
Get well soon. Hope those awful steroids do their job
I hope slowly but surely you will be feeling better in your self soon.
All the best.
So sorry to hear you've been so unwell. Hope the rest at home will soon get you back on your feet. You are right about not being able to sleep in hospital. Last time I was in, they brought in a woman in the middle of the night and did nothing quietly. She turned out to have mental health problems and didn't stop talking! Still, it was all quite entertaining - better than the tele! Just didn't get any sleep.
Look after yourself - you'll soon be whizzing round with all those steroids inside you! xx Moy
Its really scarry when this happens hard not to panic but hopefully on the mend now.
Speedy recovery .xx
That was a scary experience for you and your husband Stumpy..Get well soon and drink plenty with those steroids.Regards Ger
so glad you home and a bit bet now x I had a busy weekend and had to go out for a meal last night had an attack just before I was due to go so took six steroids I have as an emergency pack and managed to do the night with no problem so wish you feeling better real soon xx
Hello davecarol2, yes I'm a lot better today Thankyou. I'm on 30 mil steroids to be tapered down over the next five weeks and it really is helping my breathing. Sorry you had an attack and I know how scary that is. Glad you managed your night out Inspite of problem that's good. Hope you have it under control now? Take care of yourself x🙂
Do you have access to a community matron? We have had one for about six months now and have found her very helpful. With the support of this service OH has only had to go into hospital once and that was for a couple of days for intravenous medication and was planned. He came home and continued with the IV antibiotic at home. He was regularly in and out of hospital as an emergency and it was very stressful.
Hello Bella395, yes I do have nurses coming in to check on my sats and to see if I need anything and I must say they are brilliant team. Trouble was last Friday everything happened so fast and my son was here, I didn't feel right and the next thing was my arms went heavy followed by breathing difficulties so he phoned the 999. Anyway I have it under control now with steroids and my nurse is coming in tomorrow. I hope your husband is feeling better now 🤞it is very stressful for patients and their families your right. Take care 🌹😊
I hope you feel better soon ! I felt unwell last Tuesday just very sluggish and breathless so knew something was lurking so I opened my emergency pack of steroids and antibiotics-the steroids are good but the side effects are awful - I get the shakes too plus insomnia and feelings of doom and gloom but I’m starting to turn the corner today I have been having steam inhalation with oil of olbas because I can’t cough up what is lurking in my lungs it’s awful. Have muco tablets too but this time it’s taking longer to shift. Get well soon my lovely x
Hi pepparruby those are the exact same symptoms that I have and steroid side effects plus this amazing fatigue because of bronchiectasis an appointment at 4pm tomorrow and diddent know how to describe symptoms so your post has been a big help thanks Ger..every cloud has a silver lining ect ect lol
It’s really hard for me to know if I’m having an exasperation or chest infection- I’ve often gone to the gp M.D. said I think I’ve got something coming - the gp listens to my chest and says it’s clear!?!?! How come I say and then a few days later I’m exhausted lethargic sluggish and tired. I don’t look ill either. The cough rarely comes until later if I’m lucky!
Hi there pepparuby1, yes Thankyou I'm feeling a better now. I'm on 30mils of steroids per day to be tapered down by one each week. My shakes are still with me but my breathing is a lot better thank goodness. I think we all know when something dosnt feel right you just know your own body more than any doctor I think. Have you got bronchiectusis? If so my doctor put me on Carbasisteen capsules and that has helped me cough up the phlegm on my chest. The tablet s losten it all up. I hope you feel better soon 🤞🌹
Oh dear what a scary time. Hope your well soon and not hypo on steroids.
Thankyou Louiss, well I'm breathing better now Louiss, and I would take any amount of steroids just to breath properly to be honest. Nothing is more scary than not being able to breathe. Take care of yourself x😊
Home is best! Now is the time to let those steroids do their stuff .Get better soon.
Thankyou donut43, yes home is best and I'm feeling a lot better now. Hope you are enjoying the weather? X✋️🙂
I hope you get well soon.
I hope you get welllsoon. Bad time of year for us! Pollen.
Enjoy the quiet at home
Take care. X
hello stumpy55. I can truly relate to not getting any rest in the hospital. lol. I had a flair up bout three weeks ago and was in the hospital for 6 days. They gave me everything but rest. Between the needles and blood pressure, breathing treatments, etc. there is no such thing as rest. We have to thank God for the doctors and all that they do for us but don't they know that we need rest? lol Well take care stumpy55, and I pray that you got the treatment you needed. I will be praying for you...
Thankyou 2pray4us, I hope you are feeling much better now my friend. You are so right about no rest in hospital. First I was in A and E, then after three hours I was put onto medical ward having more tests, and finally onto a proper ward and this was 2.30am . And this team of nurses wanted to do sats and ask all the old questions "are you anything ? To which I replied "yes lack of sleep" I stayed awake chatting with other patients that were woken up by me . Anyway I feel so much better now Thankyou again. X🙂
Very best wishes Stumpy. I'm sure it was all quite distressing and i wish you a speedy recovery.
So glad you are home Stumpy55. Home is always a much better place to heal.
