I'm 86 with CO P D

My knees have long been shot,

My skin is rotting off me,

And there's other things I've got.

I smoked, and drank and ate too much

As I went on my way.

And now's the day of reckoning,

The time I'm going to pay.

So hark at what I'm telling you,

And take steps to prepare.

If I had known I would live this long,

I'd have taken better care.

About my life past, gone.

The only thing is mate

I learned it far too late.

Yep,me too...learnt my lessons too late I'm afraid, so its a "work in progress" picking out the plus points and trying not to dwell on the negative ones! (Violins playing very sad,tearful melody whilst reading this please- I'm going for the sympathy vote!!)

I asked this question of various people: If you are on your deathbed would you rather it was on a park bench reliving a life full of adventure and excitement. Or would you rather be in a beautiful home surrounded by lovely things that you bought instead? x

Another great lesson Don. I wish I’d heeded this in my younger days. Being an asthmatic smoker for 20 years really was a silly thing to do.....

It’s never too late, the experts say

To take good care of you

Exercise and lower the fat

Plus eat your five a day

I get it right now and again

But never all the time

It seems to end before it begins

But generally I’m fine.

That’s what I tell myself Don but the truth is I need to take better care if I’m to live to a good age. Xxxxx

I love the attitude from all of you, and the poem is really good Don , I think in hindsight we all would of planned our future differently, with care and attention. But as we don't know what's ahead and time itself is a lesson, I think maybe we can excuse ourselves for silly things like smoking etc. I feel justified anyway ha!Ha! I wish all of you a safe and healthier journey 👍
