Hi Shadwell.

I take Zopiclone and have done for years.

If you can sleep without tablets that is the best advice. I don't know how old you are, but I doubt the decision will be yours. Doctors are very reluctant to prescribe sedatives these days.

If you can manage without them - I would advice do so, if not, your specialist of GP will decide what to give you if you can't sleep. Sorry I can't be of more help..

Hi shadwell, I also used sleeping pills when hospitalized with a serious exacerbation. While I did get a prescription for at home use, I only used for two nights and then decided to stop. I changed to non-prescription diphenhydramine allergy relief antihistamine tablets ( two 25 mg tablets). I found the allergy tablets relax me enough to possibly fall asleep, and stay asleep, more naturally. Best Wishes, judg69

Hi Shadwell

I am on bromazepam, not working very well so back to camomile tea and night time meditation!

Doctor tried zopiclone, it wasn’t doing anything for me.

Go and see your GP and discuss possibilities.

Take care x

Pete has been on zopiclone for many years. I doubt they work now but he won’t give them up.

Have a chat yo your GP and see what is said. Xxxxx

Hello Shadwell .

I do take Lunesta (Eszoplicone). I have trouble sleeping because I take steroids and just...well, I find it hard to settle. I was getting so little sleep the doctor advised me to take them.

In actual fact it isn't advisable to take sedatives for the long term. But in my case, it's just a necessity. I really hate that I depend on them to get sleep.

Definitely discuss it with your doctor. I know it's dreadful not getting any sleep.

Take care.

Dear Caspiana I have been taking prednisolone steroid for 15 years or so, just 5mg now. When I was on 30mg a day for the first three or four months I couldn't sleep; often still awake at 3 or 4am. I gradually took them later each day until I was taking them near bedtime, which I still do. i then (and now) got to sleep reasonably well. After a few months at doctor's instructions i then weaned myself off them taking 5mg less each fortnight until I got down to 5mg.

I take Nytol herbal now and again. They work quite well, don't feel too drugged the next day. If its pain keeping me awake then a paracetamol and codeine, codeine is an opiate.

My doctor prescribed me amitriptyline, I take two about 7 ish and that helps with my sleep and anxiety. I've been taking them for about a year. Speak to your doctor see what they can do x

Hi like others have said it’s best to discuss this with your doctor. My doctor won’t prescribe them unless I’m hospitalised or just come out from hospital. They are very addictive and I found they worked well at first then not so good. Now as I’m a poor sleeper and have restless legs too I avoid caffeine, drink herbal tea including a night one and have cranial osteopathy. All this works well until I’m upset about something and then I can’t sleep so Have unfortunately had to turn to a co codamol once in a while. Hope you get sorted x

Hi Shadwell, yes, I use sleeping tablets. I know the doctors do not approve, however, I am an insomniac and have taken them for many years. They do not affect my breathing although I think I am lucky that they do not as this is one of the reasons my doctor wanted me to stop taking them. If you do not need them I would say stay off them, but if you are still in doubt go and see you doctor. Take care Maximonkey
