Hubby is 66 years. Has rheumatoid arthritis and diagnosed with copd about 6 years ago. Was coping well with blue inhaler 3 puffs twice a day and brown 2 puffs twice a day. From January 2018 he took a bad flu and from then chest has been considerably worse as in needing to use blue inhaler 6-7 times a day 4 puffs each time. Also breathing is caught and phlegm down in his chest cavity. Has been prescribed 3 lots of antibiotics and 2 X-rays and X-rays are showing no infection or shadows. After use of blue inhaler hubby can walk a longer distance. Some coughing due to phlegm. He takes 3 mg of steroids daily for rheumatoid as well as methotrexate etc. Could u please advise if there is something the doctor could possibly be missing. Doctor has made a referral to lung clinic in hospital but this could take for ever.

Thanks for any help. Much appreciated

He may need an inhaler review. If he is using his Ventolin so often the doctor can check if using a different inhaler alongside it would help. Why not ring our helpline and speak to one of the nurses about it? The number is 03000 030 555 and they are there during office hours.

I've been struggling with flu from before Christmas. GPs and hospital are both dealing with the symptoms and also looking at other possible causes for the long duration of this infection which has affected all my weak areas. I think in reality it is a nasty virus that's just slow to shift, very slow. I've had 6 lots of antibiotics and steroids multiple times, I've had x-rays, bloods and stools tested to identify causes … I too have gone through bucket loads of ventolin throughout this episode and only now am I beginning to finally turn the corner. Things will improve, just be patient and do what you can each day but be prepared to rest too and don't beat yourself up about it.

Just to add, make sure you keep in touch with your GP with every new symptom or variation in your condition. I make notes for my GP to ensure they have a clear view of my problems.

The respiratory clinic will be able to help. I,m no expert but, i think he should be on a stronger inhaler. Probably a preventer type. In the mean time i would ask to see the respiratory Nurse at you Dr.Surgery. good luck. 😊🌻✌️
