Hello everyone

I hope you are having a good weekend

Like lots of us I have copd I am giving a rescue pack of antibiotics and prednisolone

The antibiotics is called doxycycline

I have had a chest infection for almost 4 week s now I have seen my doctor all he will give me doxycycline I have ask for a different antibiotics but he as said all he can give me is doxycycline I said I would pay for a different antibiotics he said he can not do that he said that is what the n h s have said only doxycycline

As any one else had the same. But wear do you go to the hospital

Hi there have you given your GP a mucus sample to have tested?

Hi Dave, sorry you are having all these problems with the antibiotics, I am always given Doxycycline. Hope you feel better soon and ask your GP to have your sputum tested. 😊Xxx

Hi Dave, I'm sorry you've been unwell for so long. I suggest you ring the BLF helpline tomorrow (03000 030 555). The nurses there are very experienced and may be able to offer some advice.

Hi Dave, I can't take Doxycycline I have bad reactions to it.

I am usually given Clarithromycin and Co-Amoxiclav.

Hi

Mine is Amoxicillin, ok if not allergic to penicillin like doxycycline is first choice as it covers a wider field. Persistent infection require sputum sample for testing. To get a more efficient antibiotic.

Different infections need different antibiotics. As others have said, your doctor needs to arrange for a sample of your sputum to be tested so that they can determine which particular antibiotic will best target whichever particular bug is causing the infection.
