Hi Lealee

You have to boost up your immune system, vitamin C, D, zinc..check with your doctor.

No, not especially, pleurisy is fluid in the pleura. Unfortunately it can mean anything from bronchitis to pneumonia.

So do keep warm, take good care of yourself, plenty to drink and rest.

Take good care of yourself x

Thanks Fran,

I’ve been taken multi vitamins and a daily berocca but have somehow still got sick. Really not liking my colleague at the minute (who is still coughing everywhere and not covering her mouth!)

I feel so weak and the antibiotics side effects are crappy.

Although I keep thinking it could always be worse so I’m at leat grateful for that.

How are you doing? Xx

in reply to Lealee

Yes you can take some all year round I tell you with all we have to face..berocca I’m not so sure, there has been a controversy, maybe our BLF friends know.

I expect you feel poorly, I hate taking antibiotics too, which ones are you on? take your probiotics, it helps supposedly.

I am waiting patiently for the 2nd op, and hopefully the surgeon can explain why I have this stain on the first one! It isn’t easy.

Take good care of yourself xx

I’m on clarimycin 😒 the side effects are horrible.

That’s awful, that’s the eye surgery right? Hopefully your vision isn’t too badly effected!

Xx

in reply to Lealee

Yes I know..awful metallic taste and stomach ache..ask the chemist for help with the side effects..

I have to be patient with the eye surgery..yes it is affected unfortunately..hopefully they do a good repair job at the hospital tomorrow. 😊

Thinking of you Lealee x

I was on antibiotics that caused the bitter metallic taste, I discovered the taste is made worse by dairy products. We ran out of milk, the shop was closed. The taste became bearable until my husband kindly rushed off to by some milk. So I experimented. No dairy, taste faded, tiny sliver of cheese or a little milk and Yuk! back it came. So every time I took that antibiotic I went dairy free for the two weeks of medication. Happily my emergency antibiotics are different now

Perhaps I've misunderstood your reply Fran but bronchitis is viral or bacterial or even non-infective problem in the bronchi which are the two major airways linking the lungs to the trachea, i.e. at top of lungs. x

in reply to O2Trees

Hello Jean,

I have had lower lung infections that affected the lower bronchial airways..so said the specialist following the spirometry..

Hoping for Lealee it is just that.,

The medical name is acute lower respiratory tract infection or Acute LRTI, it can be pneumonia but the GP would have said I expect.

It is vague..

Looking for helpful patient info:

europeanlung.org/lung-disea...

Hope it is useful x

That’s what they called it Fran, I would have hoped they would have said if it were pneumonia?! X

in reply to Lealee

Sure they would, don’t worry, they listened and heard it gurgling in the lower part of your lung..got to get that mucus out, check breathing/huffing exercises on youtube. It helps to bring the mucus up and expectorate.

If you are worried in anyway that it is not improving, that you have breathing difficulties go back to the doctor’s or to A&E as you feel more comfortable.

Take care Lealee xx

Yes very useful Fran. Thank you. I was way out. Also I hadn't previously seen pneumonia defined as an infection of the alvioli. That would explain why my sats drop so far when I have what they call pneumonia, i.e. alveoli blocked with gunk so that gas exchange can't happen . :) :)

Thanks Fran. Im struggling with bringing up the mucus at the moment.

I’ve taken today off work because my chest is crackling and I had a rough night sleep. I’m so tired!!

in reply to Lealee

Lots of hot drinks, even hot shower if you can it will help clearing mucus, eucalyptus rub like vicks or olbas oil, olbas pastilles to suck, old-fashioned soothing remedies 💕🌹

Pleurisy is when the lining surrounding the lung is infected. The plural space is a separate area. From reports if you get pleurisy once then you become prone to getting repeat infections. There are a number of reasons for pleurisy from viral infections, certain types of autoimmune diseases RA is one or even some medications.
