Report any change right away.....It doesn’t have to mean the end of the world....your doctor doesn’t know this is going on until you tell him..... let us know the results.....very good luck....

You should tell your doctor, just in case, but it is most probably just a tiny blood vessel that has ruptured from the force of coughing. All the same you should still tell your doctor.

I just coughed up blood so naturally am searching this forum for advice and reassurance which thankfully I have found and that horrible nausea of panic has passed. It was red not dark, which seems to be good. I had the usual phlegm in my throat that I felt I needed to clear but when I coughed it up I was spitting out blood. I hadn’t been coughing but had just taken my inhaler. It stopped after a while so I’m hoping that’s finished now. I see Hidden said the same about it being a tiny blood vessel. Is that in the lungs, or in the throat? (Just curious)

Now I need some distraction therapy!

Usually it is just from the throat.

Thanks 2greys 👍 I was just having a moment (or several!) of panic there. It was the first time it had happened to me and was a bit scary. Then I read the posts here and it seems fairly common, well not too unusual anyway.

If you've coughed a lot the blood is probably burst blood vessels, not serious. Yellowish sputum however points to infection and you need antibiotics, so see your doctor tomorrow. It's not serious, don't worry. ;-)

Just a little. But not sure though because i remember i used toothpick for my teeth right before i spit that sputum. Im confused if its from my phlegm or from my gums

Im also in the same boat for months now, Ive had all the test imaginable - im going back to my Dr on Friday.. Could you supply any update or advice? Thank you so much, im quite worried.

Ring your doctor and let them know on Monday, let them decide if there is any reason to do anything further. It's most probably from increased coughing and not a concern, but they do need to know.
