Couldn't manage the 24hr ph test I'm afraid

I had the probe down my throat but could only keep it in for two hours then had to remove it.

I got the tube then train home and managed to eat and drank as that seemed to help. But I could constantly feel it and it felt like I had something stuck in my throat. Now I don't suffer anxiety or panics at all but I actually felt like I had a panic attack. It made me feel terrible really wobbly and stressed and sick, so I just knew I couldn't keep it down there for a whole day and night.

I pulled it out! I feel a bit of an idiot and embarrassed about it but the stress an headache etc was too much to bear. I was up a couple of hours last night with my son and that has made me so tired which doesn't help.

I tried, I failed! Not having anything else put down my throat again. I'll just have to see the specialist and explain and see where we go from here.

Feel a bit of a quitter but I gave it my best shot.

You're not a quitter!! You tried and couldn't tolerate it. I hope you can have some different treatment that you can bear. Lilian xxxxxx

And you said it sounded fun! I couldn't do it.

You’re no failure or quitter. I know for a fact that Pete couldn’t do that for 2 minutes let alone hours.

There must be a way round it. Don’t worry. Xxxxx😘

Weird sensation couldn't cope with it. You would have thought in this day and age they'd come up with something less intrusive.

Youre not a failure. You were brave to even try. Must be awful. Dont worry about it. Like others say, this day and age there should be more comfortable ways.

I've given birth twice with only the assistance of gas and air! But it having something down the throat, can't stand it, makes me really panicky!

Yes that's it for me now no more!

in reply to Shancock

I feel the same. Give birth any day!

That sounds horrendous Shancock!! I'm amazed you managed 2 hours...As you said you'd think in this day and age they would have come up with something less intrusive. Well done for giving it a go though 😉. xx

Shancock, you are a star for trying,we all have a natural gag reflex and when we have lung conditions and or esophagus conditions this is magnified and anything administered via the throat is in my experience an horrific experience, good luck with investigating alternative procedures with your consultant x,,,Skis and scruffs

Two hours! Crikey me! That’s far too long to tolerate something so intrusive. Don’t blame yourself, Shancock....you’ve been brave, the medics need to find another way. Love 💓

Thank you it did feel unpleasant. I'm not having anything put down my throat again!

I really don’t blame you! Try to relax now. Sometimes things work better on different days. You said you’d been up with your son in the night. Maybe cancel if possible if you know it’s the wrong day, and try to make another appointment. But some things are just beyond us and we have to accept that. Good luck, Shancock. xx

I had that test and it was absolutely horrible, that constant gagging feeling, and on the edge of panic the whole time. I felt like pulling it out but was too scared. 24 hours has never seemed so long! I've got a bit of a 'thing' about my throat and airway being completely clear. Just don't worry about it, I'm sure lots of people can't tolerate it. We can't be the only ones!

I couldn't stand it !!! No way !!! But what's the test for ??? Xxxxx

Pulling it out took few seconds really easy just took a deep breath and pulled the wire thing. Felt such a relief to get it out. There was no way I could've slept with it down there. The technology is available surely to just swallow a tablet which has a monitor in it I'm sure. There must be easier ways for them to do it than that. I don't care what they say to me I'm not doing it again not for anything.

You were much braver than I am - I cancelled the appointment. Just the thought of it was too much for me.

I didn’t like the test either but couldn’t face pulling it out myself so went back early. Annoying thing is the results have disappeared and they’re suggesting that we do it again. No way not in a million years

No I wouldn't do it again if somewhere offered me a load of cash! Pulling it out was dead easy too seconds.

My daughter has suffered with acid reflux and sickness since she was born. It took many years of attending hospital and changing from a paediatrician to an adult consultant tbat we found out she had a hiatus hernia.

She had the ph test done with the tubes down her nose. She could only stand it for a short time and pulled it out as soon as we got out of the car at home.

Am I right in saying that people who suffer with this always feel like there is a ball at the back of their throat, which makes it really hard to suffer the tubes there as well

I don't have the hernia I've had an endoscopy and it's all fine their. Sometimes I feel gunky stuff at my throat. The symptoms can vary, i get cough sore throat, back pain and major burping.

My daughter has the gunky stuff at the back of her throat which made it difficult to do the test.

I gag on just swallowing tablets sometimes and strangely it's smaller ones rather than larger, so there is no way anyone is going to stick a tube down my throat and leave it there. I think you were very brave to go through it in the first place. My reaction would have been "no way Jose"! Well done for trying!
