What can the Royal Brompton do for copd that really makes a difference?

I’ve got asthma that’s permanently done my airways in, it’s all good getting sent to the Brompton but I mean it’s a well known thing that there’s no curing airways scarring?

Hi Ricky. Where do I start? I've been going nearly 25yrs. I doubt I'd still be here if I'd been left to the mercies of my local hospital. There are so many benefits: investigative tests & a detailed diagnosis, using state of the art equipment, the benefit of world-leading research, referral for treatment of any other lung conditions or complications you may develop in the future, lung-centred physiotherapy & pharmacy services, not to mention everyone you meet is an expert in their field. I am mainly treated for bronchiectasis but because this is partly connected to an inefficient immune system, I've also seen an immunologist, and an allergy specialist. I've lifelong severe asthma too, which has recently become uncontrolled, so that's next on the list. And if repeated infections cause heart problems, you can see a cardiologist. If I were you I'd put your positive head on & grab the chance

ps I've just noticed your pic, and how young you are. I wish I'd been referred to RBH for asthma at your age - I might've avoided some of the complications I've had. I think you'll be really impressed. It's a bit of a trek but well worth it. Parking in adjacent streets is usually ok, but quite expensive. My local hospital is still involved with my care but I'd never again rely on them to look after me, they've done a rubbish job so far.

I did like lady di.or princess diana.yes i recall lady di had a lot 2 do with said hospital.how does a person get referred there.kensington is a nice postcode to live in.

GPs or your hospital consultant can refer, if they think you need more specialist treatment than you’re getting at your local general hospital.

My GPs refered me to the local hospital for tests before asking the RB to see me, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck to you.

I have been going for 6 yrs I woukd be died by now because I have heart issues to which my hospital missed also so they are wonderful there let me know if your driving up as I have a tip on parking hunni if you are good luck val

OK hunni we have been doing so long now it's not an issue for us do you get benefits if so you can claim yoyr train fare back either on the day but need to go over to the other hospital and the office is shut between 1 and 2 or you can send form and tickets you must must keep them send them, then they will send you a cheque in the post takes 14 days if you want to claim on day take benefit letter with you OK x

I don’t get benefits only had to stop work in jan cause it got too hard with my breathing but come to mention it I’ll look into that as it may help a bit till they get me grafting again as I’ve got no income atm

I’ve been a patient since ‘97 with heart and lung problems. It is a highly specialised hospital with world class research. I have always said if Brompton can’t help not sure anyone can. I am under 4 consultants, all staff really kind, helpful and understanding. At the moment waiting for tests to see if I am suitable for valve implant as not fit enough for full blown surgery. I’m a bit of a weird case, I’m young and always struggled with exercise always kept fairly active but could never go the distance and my lung function has always been 67 percent and I had an exacerbation in December and have been struggling since with breathing and fatigue but don’t have asthma attacks just a constant breathlessness, as this was hard to get hold of my specialist at the hospital sent a letter to the Brompton, you have to be referred by a specialist I think, there may be ways of trying to get hold of them yourself I’m not too sure, sorry I can’t be too helpful but I hope there is a way you can see them

Be thankful you are going to such a great hospital many of us have to make do with a general nurse at the gp,If anyone can help you it will be the Brompton i wish you all the best x
