Temporary Relief from Symptoms

I have noticed a very strange thing regarding my breathing difficulties which have got worse over recent years. So bad, in fact, that I stopped going to functions like parties, meeting etc where people would notice my wheezing, coughing and other unpleasant nosiness. Until one time a few months ago when there was a birthday party that I didn't want to miss. So off I go feeling very apprehensive. I was there for over two hours and didn't cough or wheeze at all during that time. Since then I have been to quite a few functions and the same thing happens. It's as though I get a shot of adrenalin to see me through until I get back home.

Once home I find that I have a build up of grunge to cough up, but fair enough, I'm quite happy with that arrangement. Anyone else find this happening to them?

Yes Don, Pete is often like that. He can barely eat a meal at home without choking but we can go out and he’ll get through three courses........mind you it might be my cooking I suppose! 😀

I’m pleased you can enjoy things more now. Take care xxxx

I think that remark on your cooking requires a home visit. PM me your address. :-)

Yes......coffee morning this am, then art class this pm.....fine....I must admit only a few yards to walk from my car. I come home and cough as soon as I step through the door, my friend is the same....she reckons she's allergic to her house!

Excuse me Mr - I was born in Northendon so am a true northener! I am therefore not posh enough to drink wine and much prefer lager or vodka... :)

Mind you Northendon was in Cheshire when I was born so am a bit posher than most mancs. x

Judging by the cavorting you get up to with the ladies on here, I find that very hard to believe. ⛷

No..I understand you do though but I thrive on social gatherings..I go to football matches 😃 I like crowds..

It is a fight to go outward instead of inward but I want to feel positive vibrations from other people’s happiness although my last gatherings have been funerals( no joke)..

Still.. I have even enjoyed the warmth I got from the friends and family present..

Take good care x

Hi Don- Rhymer,

Yes, I have noticed similar although not full proof, even to the point of going to ' fit to breathe' classes where I find that I can just- about do all the exercises without the debilitating breathlessness and panic, yet I find it hard to walk about my home. I have a theory that when you are out and about, although you may be anxious and nervous beforehand, you are 'taken out of yourself' so to speak and somehow ' forget' to be breathless or cough. Unfortunately like I said it's not full proof and doesn't happen all the time, but if it gives you a reprieve and some joy it's all to the good. I am not saying that your symptoms and mine are psycho- somatic, I just think that the mind works in mysterious ways...

I applaud you for having a great positive attitude and the courage to resume your social life. It's inspiring and I for one am going to try to get out more.

Thank you for your uplifting post

Hi kelda, I sometimes find it difficult to walk around my house too, I have been so concerned at times that I have made an emergency appointment to see a GP.....get there and my symptoms ease.

I find it strange that I can start coughing as soon as I get through my front door...and I have made the house as dust free as I can with hard flooring , leather furniture, HEPA air cleaner and vacuum cleaner.

Just thought of one problem during the night.......sometimes when my breathing is bad I do need to get professional help otherwise it could be dangerous.....but the difficulty is knowing when I really need to go to the GP or A and E . Better safe than sorry I guess

Maybe you have a mold in the house that triggers the cough

I have heard that it's a nice boost to our immune system to be out in good company & obviously has many other benefits lifting the spirits. Keep on keeping on 😊

I think Don has a good point.i've had similar experiences, though not as bad.but I sort of know what your saying.has 2 be said some of my probs anxiety comes into play.but brought some bach rescue drops as recommended by knitter.

Hi reiver, just check how you feel a few minutes after taking the Rescue Remedy......if not much better ask for professional help. I don't know how much the drops are ' mind over matter' either.

They can help me when I am anxious, as can pursed lip breathing and steady gentle belly breathing......but sometimes I need more help. As I said in my reply to kelda above......better to be safe than sorry.

hello knitter,as the rescue remedy is made from flower petals I thought it would taste sweet,it tasted like neat whiskey.and I was shaking when I opened the remedy,i spilt some.i did know some breathing exercises but they are 4 anxiety.if it don't work dr says 2 take a diazepam.

Hello Don.

I think if I am out and about and having a nice time, I get distracted a bit. Sometimes I even feel quite normal. 😊

That is odd isn’t it but alas yes it has also happened to me on several occasions. I think it happens mostly when my Grandaughter has a birthday or school graduation. Maybe it’s because I know she’s counting on my attendance? Although she would be the one most likely to forgive my absence. I guess we’ll have to just chalk that one up to strange and yet bizarre . It does come in handy though when it’s something I really DONT want to go to like baby showers, bachelorette parties, baptisms etc I prefer the outdoor bbq’s or birthdays with the good cake🍰

Pity you can't buy a bottle of it, I've tried bottles of other stuff (hic!), but it doesn't work as well. ;-)

Reply

You'd think with all the other drugs there are out there that someone somewhere would have found out how to bottle it! Wouldn't that be great. I could certainly do with some today. I've got that 'Can'tbebothereditis' bug again!! xxMoy

It would be made illegal pretty qickly. There probably is something similar around which us law abiding folk don't know about. ;-)

I don't think you've got a bad dose of 'Can'tbebothereditis' or you wouldn't be reading this.

Reply

Yes, I expect there is something out there, Don! Maybe I don't have 'Can'tbebotherditis'. I think my condition should be called, 'Can'tshiftmyselffurtherthanthecomputeritis'. Now, here's a challeng - can you get that into a poem? I love reading your rhymes. xx

When I come home after a social occasion, or even after having visitors, I have found that the animated conversation acts in the same way as exercise and so, yes, I find it easier to cough stuff up afterwards. In fact I NEED to cough up afterwards. I obviously spend too much time talking!

For those that suffer as soon as you get home, something to think about is, air fresheners, cleaning products, heating to high and natural air flow through the house. And as already mentioned damp and mould.

Hope this helps

😁 could it be the little dose of fresh air and using of the vocal chords that springs your lungs into action again Don ?

Air definitely does it for me .., I'll stay in for days especially with this cold weather. .. and when I do my lungs certainly feel it ... Sometimes its been bitter cold and a struggle to cope walking ...so thats not good .. but decent fresh air is what we need ... I dont know about anyone else but I can feel quite healthy until I get behind a smoker 😯 then its all been for nothing ...
