Well It’s All Been Going On

Quite a interesting post LIKE WHO do WHO think thay are GUESS that’s why those with COPD like myself feel hard done by as by all accounts COPD according to the WHO is self inflicted.

According to WHO Diease guideline’s.

veterans.gc.ca/pdf/dispen/t...

ALSO on subject of hard done by I worte to NICE asking them about Prescribing Criteria Resources In Relation To Alzheimer’s Dementia Patients Suffering From Asbestos Mesothelioma Perscribed disease only.

Guess time will tell what recourses information are available to those Alzheimer’s Dementia patients suffering from asbestos mesothelioma.

Next on my tado list is IIDB and there outdated perscribed dieases list WHEN it comes to mixed asbestos dust silica asbestos.

Why NO lung advocates have been in touch with IIAC and the out dated prescribed dieases list WELL I can guess.

But unless am Mistaken times have changed so as pathology of diease and did not thacher close all uk coal mines.

Clearly NO one as told the IIAC

Mine is,I smoked for 35 years.I knew the risks but still did it.Smoke free now for 2 years but the damage is done.I can't blame anyone but myself.I know not all copd is caused by smoking so it is a bit unfair to paint everyone with the same brush.

I think that Mr Scargill was instrumental in closure of coal mines.

in reply to HuwieHex

Papers have shown all Pitt’s was closing FOR Chinese coal.

Am sure scargill was good advocate for workers rights compensation.

You make some good points JAS. Petes COPD was also caused by smoking but of course not everyone is the same.

I wish you well. Xxxxx

I guess , Jeff, it's a very complicated issue.....I chose to start smoking at 17, pinched one of my father's .....but did I choose to live surrounded by everyone else's cigarette and coal smoke. I had no choice there. But I did have one lecture in school about the danger of lung cancer...so I did know.

But I did not smoke when I was pregnant ....the dangers then we're just being realised.

Did the men in my family have a choice to be coal miners and suffer from ' the dust' ? Did my father in law choose to work with asbestos lagging ....and live to be a hundred with no lung problems.

No easy answer in my opinion.

in reply to knitter

Hi Knitter this no easy answers really I choose to smoke in my late 20’s as everyone I had seen who never all died young.

I guess I never wanted to be one BUT like you say pollution smog occupations BSE crisis guess lots is out of our control ITs just a shame people focus in on things that are own doing.

Rugby players, skiers and all sports folk break legs, arms, backs etc but are still treated with respect even though their injuries are 'self inflicted'. Obese patients and their diseases also 'self inflicted' even injuries suffered from car, train and plane accidents are 'self inflicted' they all chose to travel by vehicle not walk....medicine is supposed to 'help' people without prejudice, isn't It?

Defo agree with you there AND a junky is respected more than those with lung diease guess in good company as all toffs at it.

I waiting to hear blf go on about smoking in House of Commons bar what happens to set by example.

Thanks Jeff and a very good morning to you. How are you and your dad coping with the added problems of snow?, well I hope. Anyway COPD is not just a self inflicted lung disease as you know, however smoking does not help. But smoking can make many illnesses more severe. Air pollution does not help any lung condition but we can't illiminate that either. My father -in-law smoked forty a day till 87 yrs old , no COPD or lung cancer, he died of vitamin B deficeincy disease after smoking for some seventy odd years. Having had several members of my family in the past die of coal dust diseases and losing limbs from pit collapse I don't think people should be judged on life status they choose as there are many outside influences we have no control over also that can have effects on our health, just the same as the wealth aspect of life. Many labourers have to retire early due to arthritis, but labouring jobs still exist, so does the saying "hard work never did anyone any harm" :) :) Enjoy your day and keep up that research and questioning what seems wrong.

Hi Katie hope things are ok MY dad well is still eating crisp but is deteriorating.

Is chest is horrendous when he coughs be that cancer plastic stuff ANYWAY is ok stressing me out as usall.

Defo agree about smoking and other causes.

I told my lung doctor when I smoke 💨 I can breath when I don’t I can’t.

Clearly is bad for me so is not smoking SO have cut right down till the find other solution than discharging me.

Was something else was going to say but forgotten

Thanks Jeff, I forget things when writing them down too. Have a nice evening, keep warm and take care

Just read what you said about arthritis,I can relate to that to some extent as I had to retire from my job as a postman because of it.

I have never smoked and have COPD. Passive smoking probably did the damage before the ban on public smoking.

Many people who have copd smoked, but not all of them. Many of those people grew up in the age of TV adverts that suggested that ' people are changing to Guards' & ' you're never alone with a Strand', was the glamorous thing to do. Emphasis was on the 'benefits' of smoking, not 'Smoking can seriously damage your health' warnings. No ingredients listing numerous added chemicals packets added to tobacco. Smokers are still high tax payers & tobacco companies & their share holders still make profits. Many illnesses are caused by carcinogenic chemicals similarly added to food. So where does the blame lie? I don't condone smoking it's obviously a bad health choice, but there are many diseases (probably the majority) that are caused by some over indulgence of toxic substances which mostly exist in food. There are risks in dangerous sport or accidents that, but for a brief careless moment, could have been prevented. The harsh physical jobs that put pressure on bodies & caused repetitive injury. The risks involved with dangerous chemicals in industry or agriculture, the toxic fumes from deisil & burning of fossil fuels. Is it reasonable then, to analyse & blame these indulgences on lifestyles. Are people going to be divided into the deserving or undeserving sick, who may or may not get the best medical treatment? Surely it would be rational & ethical to legislate ensuring these substances don't get into our food chains, daily products & atmosphere? We need a degree in science to decipher & understand most ingredient lists. Is it is not better to educate people to maintain good health? The focus needs to be on our societal values to improve our quality of life rather than the blame culture which just passes the buck. We can't change the past, only the future by our actions.
