Few years ago not for long bough gave me terrible headaches. It can cause side effects some can b mild, see how you feel with it. Some people are fine with it, but it's not for everyone.

I am worried about the mental side effects as I was on anti depressants last year & it was really hard coming off them mentally.

So far it's my inhaler that gives me the most problems but today I ache all over. Can't decide if it's the inhaler, these pills or the corticosteroid injection I had 2 weeks ago. 🙄

Maybe give it a few days if you can then see your GP and ask what they think. Sometimes the Sid effects go

If you type Montelukast in the Search British Lung Foundation box at the top of the page it will bring up lots of previous posts on the subject which you may find helpful.

Also see the Related Posts on the same subject to the right of your post.

Hi karenhskippy I was given this medicine and after just one week my Dr took me off them as I was having bad sweats terrible nightmares which led to disturbed sleep and bad headaches. Saying that a lot of people get on with this medication, my advice would be to see your g.p and discuss with them xx

I am seeing my Dr next Tue to review my meds. I also am getting night sweats and headaches which is not usual for me. Wondering if it is the Montelukast.

I was given Montelukast and together with Qvar, gave me 6 migraines in 7 days! Worst ones for years. My Zomig was presribed 2 years ago and was unused until 36 hours after taking first one. To be fair the Consultant was not given that history when I was referred by my GP, but agreed with me coming off both!

Usually good if you have respiratory allergies or allergic asthma. I didn’t like it, it kept me awake at night. I was then told to take it in the morning instead but I still felt agitated.

It is such an individual thing. Hope it works for you x

Omg.snap added to medicine as a preventer today, bit worried,i wake up covered with sweat

I already get enough headaches

I’ve been on it for years. It’s supposed to open up your airways whilst sleeping. No side effects at all. It’s been fine for me.

I have been on it for 4 months, the only side effect seems to be horrific headaches. It is helping at night with my breathing though.

I’ve been on this for quite a while, my GP prescribed in for my persistent cough before I was diagnosed with bronch. I find it helps and I notice if I don’t take it. The only side effect I have is night terrors but that’s better than coughing.

Exactly the same for me. Better to be able to breath better at night. I'll suffer the headaches.

Hi I have been on it for 18 months for allergic asthma and take it at night. I have had no side effects from it. My asthma nurse when she put me on it. It either works or not and takes two weeks for it to work.

I think you just have to wait and see if you have any side effects. Be positive it could really help you.

I used to take this medication regularly for years with no problems to treat asthma. I was taken off it when was diagnosed with bronchiectasis and my meds were changed. I have since been put back on this medication but didn't get on with it at all, we have tried different brands/manufacturers as I took this previously with no issues but had no joy although side effects do differ between manufacturers. Can only assume there is a conflict between current meds and montelukast … but nobody is prepared to say that.

That's interesting Elaine. I do feel that the tablets are helping by keeping my airways clear. I'm just a bit concerned as I feel very achey. Trouble is I had a steroid injection in my foot 2 weeks ago so it could be that. It's hard to tell. I'll persevere for now.

I've been on it for 10 years. No problems at all. It is the generic for Singulair. I also use Flonase nasal spray. Good luck.

I have been on Singulair for over 10 years. It was part of my COPD regimen. I found by accident that it helped with my allergies, especially for animal dander, this was prior to being approved for allergies. I tried going off it, but found I much better off with it and have continued, and now it is available in generic formulation.

Doc tried that for my Nasal and throat issues, but it drove my Liver bloodwork up a tree. I had to point it out to the doctor that the liver was the Number ONE side effect issue. He knew I had liver issues in the past, but never caught it on the Lab work till I pointed it out. He did say to quit taking it...duh!

I’ve been taking montekulast for a couple of years or more now. Very helpful with reducing asthma symptoms due to my sensitivity to salicylates but it took some weeks to really take effect. I had strange dreams at first and disturbed sleep but these side effects eventually settled to nothing, but took about six weeks....almost gave it up, but glad I didn’t. Hope it’s a help to you too.
