Returning cough after a cold

Hello, I'm new here and looking for some advice.

At the end of January I got a pretty bad cold - I had a sore throat, aches etc. as well as a really bad cough that at first sat on my chest and wouldn't clear.

After about a week I started to feel better and my cough started to ease - I started to bring up green phlegm etc. which got less and less frequent. I thought I was finally over it and feeling better.

However, this week I seemed to have started coughing more again. It's not a wracking cough like I had when I had the cold and I'm not bringing anything up, but I can sort of feel slight post nasal drip in the back of my throat occasionally and when I do cough and bring anything up, it's slightly thick but clear.

What's made me more concerned is that from yesterday I started to get back ache - right below my shoulder blades.

I know we can't diagnose on here, but should I be worried? I do suffer with health anxiety and trying to stay calm, but I cant get in to see my doctor until the second week of March and I'm starting to fear the worst

I've been almost the same had the flu in November took a long time to get right then boxing day caught a cold off my daughter then in Jan caught another off my great grandson the coughing was terrible thought I was choking at times really scared me and now that drip of clear mucus at the back of my throat been the doctors with it three times and they said my chest is clear and didn't give me anything I am a 7 year breast cancer survivor so it really worried me but they don'the seem to be concerned at all i am 73

Does the doctor have open surgery times or is there a walk in or emergency clinic nearby? I would get your self checked over, it's probably a viral infection but nonetheless you may need a course of antibiotics. Everytime I get a cough I get terrible pain between the shoulders but I get reflux and that makes it worse when I'm coughing.

Also if you've got phlegm and nasal drip, try some expectorant cough medicine to help you cough the mucus up more easily. Also at chemist ask for a sinus rinse kit and try doing that twice daily, it's fantastic for clearing out the nose the best thing, much better than decongestants. First one is bit priciey as it contains the bottle but once you've got that you just need to buy the sachets an their cheaper. It's called Neilmed sinus rinse and it marvellous for colds, post nasal drip etc. You will find it very helpful I'm sure.

Other than that try stay in out of this cold weather and keep warm. Drink loads of hot boiled water and get vitamin C, honey very good. But try get to a dr just to see if you need some abs too.

They all said my chest was clear and said I didn't need antibiotics so Imuch just trying to keep myself better

Nasal drip also causes a cough so could be that then too a nasal rinse will help clear it all out.

My doctors doesn't have a walk in clinic unfortunately, you have to ring up the surgery at 8am when it opens and hope they have appointments free.

In terms of phlegm it's really hard to describe what type I have. When I was sick, I was bringing up yellow and green colours when it was a dry and wet cough. This time however, there is none other than slightly thicker clear phlegm and that's happening very rarely.

The pain between my shoulders has been worse today - but then that could be because I went to the gym. I don't know

At present I have a mild sinus infection. Which as left me with a drip. I am just wondering now if some of the drip is going into my throat. Like you I am coughing more but showing no symptoms of a chest infection. Perhaps your pain is related to coughing rather than infection. Obviously if it's worrying you get it checked out.

My mother used to sniff salt water through nasal passages when she thought she was getting a cold. I have done this and it quite often clears my nose and sinuses. Cheaper than a sinus rinse.

I can only see part of your reply, and cannot find it in this thread. Was just going to say that along with your nana, my mother was born in India during the raj. Maybe it was what they did there.
