Noise when trying to sleep.

When trying to sleep at night I get loud noises from my breathing. Which ever side I lay. The noises vary and seem very loud. I have only slight mucas when I make myself cough to try and clear it.

This problem has been going on a long time and in 6 months I have been admitted to hospital 4 times with shortness of breath, been on steroids and antibiotics. The last time which was a month ago I was told it was viral , and not a chest infection. As I was only on meds. for a week I wonder if this is the reason for the noises.

Maybe someone else has had this problem and I would be grateful for some help.

Have you had a test for sleep apnea?? It causes all kinds of noises. You also, can have hypopnea's in which you stop breathing, when you start breathing again loud noises. That goes with sleep apnea.

Hope you get it figured out.

Hello Meg,

Thank you for the reply. The problem is when I am awake still, and even happens if I just lay on the settee. It really does disturb getting a good nights sleep.

I have only been out of hospital 3 weeks, so I hope that given time the problem will sort itself out. Sometimes I think that we need the antibiotics and steroids for a longer period and that would clear any problems.

Again thank you for your response. This was the first time asking any advice.

Keep well,

Julie

Thank you for your reply. I also wish I could get a nights sleep, it is so annoying to hear this noise. Sometimes it is almost musical !! . I have been diagnosed with mild stage COPD .and have been admitted to hospital four times in 6 months. This was because I could not get my breath due to chest infections or viral infection. Lets hope one day we will get a full nights sleep,

Thanks again,

Julie
