I know it is a big ask but please try not to panic. A shadow on the lung can be as the result of more then one thing. There are some pretty serious causes but sometimes it is overlapping organs and blood vessels, etc. that may be composited on the x-ray in such way as to create a shadow. A hiatal hernia can also cause a shadow, as can an infection or a broken rib. Further tests will identify the problem. Until then, no matter how many times people say 'don't worry', you probably will but the likelihood then is that you will feel relief that it is not as bad as you thought it may be. Welcome to the forum. :)

I do understand but really step back and take a look- you’re jumping to a conclusion you shouldn’t be thinking about until they call you into the office and tell you to bring somebody with you . Your shadow could be minor like some fluid or mucus-don’t worry til it’s time to

I had this 14 years ago along with a permanent cough and drastic weight loss. Had a bronchoscope as had dark shadows .Turned out i had double pneumonia and a hole in my right lung so dont think the worst.I have severe COPD and am on the list for an op .Good luck and hope your result is not what you think it is .

Hello Casper20 .

So much good advice from the great people here. I am sorry you are going through this. I can imagine it must be quite nerve wracking. Not all shadows are cancer. I'm fact quite commonly they can be pleural effusions, or overlapping organs than come up as dense in the xray or even pneumonia. Or, they can be nothing at all.

Keep faith dear Casper. We are thinking of you and wish you well. Please let us know how you go.

Sending very best wishes,

Cas xx 🍀

Please try not to get ahead of yourself. I’ve had a few shadows and they have all turned out to be remnants of an infection.

Good luck.

All good advice. If they have not got in touch with you, then most of the time they have not found anything sinister. You do not know what you do'nt know you know that ;)

Be Well

over the last year I have had a number of xrays. From memory at least one had a shadow which disappeared on the next x-ray. As others have stated there are many causes so try not to diagnose yourself.
