Hi I've been diagnosed with type 2 pulmonary failure, and I've been taken to hospital 3 times in 9 months with pneumonia the last time they called it community pneumonia I don't know what that means .Can anyone enlighten me .also I get very bad shaking and twitching is this normal

Hi, I sympathise hugely. I also had five bouts of pneumonia in about 18 months. Long story short, I've had pneumonia vaccine, take loads of vitamins and minerals, 20 billion probiotic daily, moved out of London and been 100 times better. Mind you, it's taken several years to get here.

PS I think community pneumonia is caught. I'm a fiendish follower of hygiene now, I touch nothing anyone else has, except family, some bugs can live on a surface for 48 hours. Sounds hypochondria-like but I'm quite discreet about it!

HI There I can really sympathize with you on this count. Not had Pneumonia but I have had acute Bronchitis 3 times in the two months all quite bad but the last one seemed to coincide with a very bad dose of Flu (felt like I had been hit by a bus with the amount of coughing and aches and pains I had). Back in work today after the last bout but still getting concerned about it considering I work in Saudi Arabia and Bird Flu is rife here again.
I agree with Peege in that getting yourself to a nice clean air location is the best thing you can do as well as keeping an eye on the locality for any bugs going round - keep safe keep well and above all keep fighting it.

At the moment I feel I've not got the energy to fight its all been a big shock I was caring for my mother now my son is caring for me .

Health car is pretty good if you have the insurance which I do. I get pretty much what I need when I need it and for x-ray results in 10 minutes for CT scan less than 24 hours for full report and followup with doctor. I can see my specialist pretty much anytime I want and get an appointment within a very short time I.e. if I want I can see her from phone call to appointment in 2 hours. It's not all sweetness and light as the environment is terrible with dust basically 24 hours a day and from bad to having visibility less than 50m or worse.
I tend to carry hand sanitizer everywhere and use it regardless of where I am. It helps I think

I WAS WONDERING ABOUT ALL THAT SAND AND DUST?
My husband who is sadly no longer with us worked in Saudi but he always complained about the sand , are you living there permanently. MARTINA .
Have been out of the UK for 9 years - 3 years in the sand and dust of Qatar- 2 years in the pollution of Moscow Russia and now 4 years in Saudi. With a few more years to go I hope but it really depends on the progression of the COPD. So pretty much permanent as l9ng as the work and money continue - although when all is taken I to account working in my position in central London would give me the same UK net salary so time will tell.
Usually when you have lots bouts of pneumonia.
Might have been colonised THAT means this chunk that is hard to shift or not been calcerfied.
Am no expert but think community is you cought it in community AND not hospital setting.
Kids people with just a cough could have walking pneumonia you have come into contact with and that would cause community pneumonia ALSO touching stuff.
Truth is the no escaping it really AFTER all you still have to live your life.

Thank you so much for your reply ,I suppose it's everywhere I need to be more careful, but as you say you still need to live your life its so scary as when it happens I'm not aware at all I just go into a daze and keep sleeping then a few days later I'm in hospital with no idea how I got there at all
I just need to keep away from anyone who looks ill and dirty places I'm very surprised to receive so much advice I think your right about it being colonised my son thought that

Basically pneumonia is any infection in the lowest lobes of the lungs. I had a very serious episode three years ago with double pneumonia and type 1 respiratory failure. This december i had a much milder, smaller pneumonia infection which cleared up with a fortnight's ABs, during which I carried on with exercise at home, even did some DIY on the house. It left me quite weak though.
So pneumonia can mean a lot of different things. Yours sound bad Martina especially as you also have Type 2 respiratory failure which is hard to deal with. Community acquired pneumonia really does require the attention to hygiene that Peege describes above. Also never touch your eyes, nose or mouth when you are out and wash your hands every time you come back home from outside. Some of us find First Defence useful, a product you can get in Boots and squirt up your nose when you are likely to be among people who may be infectious. And tell friends/family to stay away if they are sick.
Re the twitching, sometimes people react like that to the bronchodilators they have to take. I used to get twitches from taking Ventolin. Just a thought . . .
Also CO2 retaining causes twitching THEY say if you hold hands straight in front of you and they shake your co2 retainer.
Clearly it’s not that straight forward ITs just one test the do for co2 retaining.

Hi Jeff yes I've been asked to do that several times they also have done several arterial blood gas sample which is so painful my pulmony nurse is arranging for me to have an Bipap to help my body to get rid of the carbon dioxide, I have a warning card and a special mask to give to the ambulance explaining not to give me 100% oxygen as it can lead to organ failures unfortunately twice they totally ignored it . Thank you for so much advice First Defence is on my tomorrow's shopping list great idea I've been so scared as when it happens and I end up in hospital I have no recollection at all ,if my son didn't phone for an ambulance God knows what the end result is .He knows the signs now ,I just go into some kind of trance and wake up in hospital without a clue how I got there .

Hope things improve for you ... good thing about forgetting is you forget how horried is WELL that’s what I find.
But on a plus note as your awake moving about NO mater how little it’s gets stuff moving of chest AND helps keep co2 at bay.
I wonder if agitation keeps co2 at bay guess like we stir soup guess that might be one for me to look into
