I wanted to say thanks for everyone being part of this forum and the support I receive from everyone here.

I care for my 81 year old Mum who has COPD, she has been discharged from hospital again after a brief stay because pneumonia visited again.

It was her birthday last week whilst she was in hospital and much as I tried to convince her I had paid for a luxury spa break she saw right through it and realised that not only was I lying but I hadn’t got her a present either.

Anyway, she is out again and although fragile doing ok today.

I really hope I have her constitution; it is amazing she is still around!

This forum is such a great help I wanted to thank everyone for taking part, helping me feel not so alone, and thank the moderators for being so tolerant, understanding and helpful too.

I urge anyone new here to keep taking part; every thing you would ask will be answered. Well, about COPD obviously. No luck on how to fix my Landrover.

Best wishes

Phil and my Mum

Thanks Magpuss. I have bought her a present indeed; a vintage Red Devil parachutist Action Man.

She was very pleased and he is now sitting on her bookcase next to her keeping an eye on her. She has called him ‘Little Phil’.

And I am not completely bonkers, it is true! If anyone is interested I will explain why 😁

This link may take you to Little Phil’s picture 😁

Hi Phil thank you for saying thank you (as I say to my children😁). I hope your mum had a lovely birthday. Just the fact that you took the time to see her is enough I'm sure.

I agree that this forum is a great source of support and friendship...and thank you for being a part of it too. We all lean on each other, though these days I lean more than most 😂

Have a great weekend and good luck with the Landrover x Anne x

We are glad to have Mum and you on the forum too!! I don’t know about the landrover though..😃

You have been so good to me when Dad passed away..won’t forget that, thank you.

Happy your Mum had one more birthday and is out of hospital..

Have a good weekend xx

Happy belated birthday 🎂 to your mum. I am so glad you find comfort and support here. So many of us do. 🌻 I am glad I never bought that Land Rover. 😊 It was a consideration at one point. 😒

Sending best wishes you you and your extraordinary mum.

Thanks Cas and to all who have commented or read my post.

My awful brother and his wife visited today so I stayed out of the way due to the unfortunate allergy I seem to have developed towards selfish pathetic siblings which brings me out in swear.

No, not really, I have an amazing wife who can help me restrain myself.

Let me provide an example: on Wednesday my brother finally managed to speak to Mum. He then text me to ask if I thought Mum would be strong enough to be visited by him and his toxic sidekick. I bit my tongue and told him that she seems to cope with me being over every day and if she felt tired she would have a doze. I also explained that family visits are so important to her and make her feel so much better that even visiting for an hour would be really good for her.

What he wanted to hear was ‘no, she will be far too weak but what a good egg you are for offering and maybe try again in another 6 months you are truly a wonderful human being ‘.

I went over later of course to sort out her meds etc and she was really happy they had visited, which makes me happy of course. And they had left so I didn’t have to see them which made me really happy 😂.

Oh, I totally went off track there.

I am afraid I do Roary my Landrover a disservice.

He is a Freelander 1 with a TD4 BMW 2 litre engine, I love tinkering on him and he is absolutely reliable and fabulous!

My wife loves him and she feels safe in him because he is largish etc so although I moan he is absolutely fab although it’s getting harder and harder for Mum to get in, even with a little stool.

There’s a birthday present; a little trampoline maybe.

Breathe well everyone, thank you all for being there I don’t feel quite so alone.

Hello Phil40 .

I am just going to sum up what I felt when I read your reply. I and doubtless scores of others here know exactly what you are talking about!!! 😑 But despite all these trials please know you are doing your absolute best. I salute you and your wife . 😃👑

I need to be looking after my mum too. But she lives on the other side of the world. I am trying to convince her to move to Japan . Not easy . She's so stubborn. 😕 But I keep trying. I think she will have one day. She was very ill on Christmas day but didn't call an ambulance 🚑 because she didn't want to disrupt anyone's Christmas . She also didn't call me or my sister. I was just so upset when she told me later.

Sending lots of warm wishes to you, your wife and mum.

That sounds great.! And like any family, we all give each other birthday presents every year or gift tokens that sort of thing; wow; I nearly forgot it’s actually my birthday again this weekend! Fancy that 😂

But just to be clear: that above is an attempt at humour ( I thought it seemed funny I am sorry I am in a good mood and I get stupid well stupider ) and no one gives gifts really nor asks for anything (eg money etc yes it does happen!!!) I also only have one birthday. If anyone does ask for stuff then report them to the moderators straight away. It happens really it does.

Hope that’s clear? I am determined not to upset Mrs. Mummy today 😁 I don’t do it on purpose honestly.

Best regards Usgang and may your day be full of good things,
