Popcorn Lung is an irreversible scarring in the smallest airways in the lungs. This mainly affects those who work in the popcorn manufacturing plants or even in the flavoring facilities, where they breathe in vapors of the buttery, tasty chemical called Diacetyl. This is a natural ingredient that is in butter, cheese yogurt and even wine, which manufacturers use to flavor their popcorn1.

Diacetyl isn’t harmful when swallowed, but if large amounts are inhaled, it can damage lungs. There have been severe cases where the employees had to have lung transplants. Diacetyl also causes a shortness of breath, wheezing, dry cough, phlegm, fatigue, headache, aches, pains and nausea. The vapors can irritate the eyes, nose, and throat and skin. It may lead to fixed airway restriction or obstruction. Diacetyl is also known as butanedione, 2,3-butandedione and food flavorings containing diacetyl (FFCD)2

Hi

Diacetyl is also found in strawberry flavouring, used in e-cigs and Cussons Carex strawberry lace hand cleaner gel. Both are triggers, personal experience.

none to hand, but if you look up Capella vanilla custard, you will find that there re two versions - v1 has Diacetyl in it and V2 doesn't.

V1 is by far the most popular though and many still use that as it has the best flavour

Popcorn lung is Obliterative Bronchiolitis. Which can be caused by other things: infection, mustard gas, burn pits, autoimmune diseases like RA and Lupus. And very sadly it can happen in transplanted lungs. It is the result of a disordered scarring reaction to damaged airways. Disordered because the scarring doesn’t stop once the healing of the damaged area is complete. It is a progressive, life-limiting disease. It presents as an obstructive disease in the small airways and is the very devil to diagnose. It doesn’t show on ordinary CT scans but there are indirect signs on High Resolution CT scans. And unfortunately there is very little treatment. “Few tools in the toolbox,” as my consultant said to me just before Christmas.

ecigarette-research.org/res... If this link works it should tell you all you need to know about so-called popcorn lung and Diacetyl, This is the "go to" site for any vaping questions. Dr Farsalinos is an impeccable source and has shared info with many Governments and the E.U Parliament. As he rightly points out, diacetyl is present in tobacco smoke at much higher levels
