Not sure, what were you doing before you noticed?

Nothing at all, just having a cuppa and my husband said your nails look nice, when did you do them, I hadn't done anything but they do look painted

Are your oxygen levels low Stumpy? That can sometimes show in the nails as a purplish colour.

I don't know 02Trees, I know my blood pressure is very low which is why I'm having a E C G next week. My nails are like a dark pinkish colour. Thankyou for taking the time for me. ✋️😊

Thankyou PMRPete, I will do. It seemed like a silly question but I had to ask. Never had this before. ✋️😊

If you look up on the NHS site for symptoms and treatments under n you will find how changes to your nails can identify certain health problems pictures also shown. Hope that helps joyce

Thankyou Joyce74 I will do that. It's weird when you find something out of the ordinary, even though you have lots of health issues, it's like OH BLOODY HELL WHAT NEXT lol.

I'll second that. My finger nails are now pitted indicating episodes of ill health and have become spoon shaped a sign of cancer which I had op for 6 months ago good luck.

Oh really Joyce, I didn't realise that there was so much on fingernails it's amazing isn't it. I hope you are fully recovered now from your op for cancer Joyce. Take care of yourself and thankyou for your help 🙂

Hello Matilda-1922, no they don't look like that, my nails are a dark pinkish colour, some might say purple. I think I'm falling apart at the seems lol, that's what my husband says anyway. Thankyou for helping. Keep yourself warm this awful cold winter. ✋️😊

Sounds like your oxygen levels are low

I have a nurse coming in to check on my sats and she's due back in a few days so I'le show her. My blood pressure is very low which she is concerned about so I'm having a ECG at the health clinic on Tuesday. 🙂

the top of my index finger of my left hand (including my nail) goes a puce (purply/blue) colour sometimes when I get breathless I have always thought that this was due to poor circulation and hence lack of oxygen to extremities (why only one is a mystery but hey ho why not). So maybe your nail colour change is the same worth looking up can also be peripheral artery disease.

Thankyou undine, for that, oh yes it could be due to my having Raynaud's disease which is due to losing my left leg, that's a vascular disease. My hands and right foot go blue but my fingernails have never changed colour before which I thought was odd. Thanks again I will see my G.P I hope you are keeping yourself well ✋️🙂

I've had Raynaud's phenomenon since childhood and often get purple nails and fingers when my hands are warming up after going white, usually with the cold, but sometimes with windshear. I had mine checked out by a consultant who confirmed it was primary, not secondary to another condition. If you have Raynaud's and you're noticing a change, it would be a good idea to get it checked by a doctor to rule out anything else.

Hello ErgendI, nice to meet you. Like you , I suffer with the cold, my hands always go purple but because my nails changed colour it was a shock if you know what I mean, that's never happened before. I will get it checked Though. Thankyou for for your help. ✋️🙂

This is to do with your oxygen levels

Stumpy55 profile image
Stumpy55 in reply to Matilda_1922

Thankyou Matilda I will look into it. I'm seeing my nurse in a few days. 🙂

Yes obviously with low blood supply to fingers oxygen level to them will be low too, and when getting breathless the heart will be working harder but will concentrate on getting oxygenated blood to vital organs rather than extremities. I find the more I understand what is happening to my body the less frightening it becomes but am by no means an expert. Am sure your nurse will give you good advice Stumpy may just be your Raynaud's disease has gotten a bit worse. Take care xxx

Thankyou undine, you could be right about my Raynauds getting worse, I will have to look into it. I think since I have been diagnosed with very severe copd etc, I have just focused on the illness with all the health problems that go with it and put my Raynauds to one side even though I suffer terrible with the cold. My hands go blue and my right foot but I've lived with it over thirty years now so it's part of my life if you know what I mean. However, I thank you for taking the time to help me. ✋️😊

I'm a blue girl myself when my 02 stats drop my nails by the cuticles start to go a fetching shade of navy and then it slowly takes over the whole of my nails and then as yesterday evening my hands. I have been put on 02 for 15 hrs a day but it might have to be reassessed as the blue thing is happening more often. The daft thing was I had misjudged how much oxygen I would need to cover the round trip and visiting hours at St Georges in London to see my husband and ran out towards the end of our visit. So there we were my husband, daughter and myself peering at my hands discussing whether Sammie should go and get the spare tank from the car it did not occur to us we were in a hospital and we could ask if it would be possible to have whiff of theirs.
