First of all, I would like to say I am so happy to have found this forum. I recently got diagnosed with ABPA with bronchiectasis and have been in denial about it (I’m 37 and was previously a pretty well controlled asthmatic). Then I contracted influenza A (though I got the flu vaccine) and had a reality check. Has anyone had any experience with a diagnosis of ABPA followed by an influenza infection?! I have been so ill. It was my first Hospital admission for breathing issues, I’ve always been able to manage at home with high dose prednisone, nebulizer Q4, etc. The mucous clearance is so difficult and I continue to have trouble breathing after discharge any suggestions? Thank you in advance 😊

Hi
My experience with prednizone is combating COPD combined with an antibiotic. I have tried not to use prednizone unless absolutely necessary (side effects). Is it possible that the antibiotic was not sufficiently efficient?
Thanks so much for responding to me. That’s a great point! I too absolutely hate the side effects of prednisone and usually avoid them until I’m absolutely horrible. I’m on azithromycin but maybe strong antibiotics are in order in this case. I’ll reach out to my specialist. Thank you so much! It’s just truly nice to know there are people out there going through similar things.
Hi LJGB, can't add to advice but just encouragement to hold on, it will get better. I was not diagnosed with bronchiectasis until after 7 years of going back and forth to my GP who kept suggesting different asthma inhalers! I was then referred to papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire and they have been amazing. I still have ups and many downs but they are specialist and know which treatment to try... keep holding on and if your not under specialists ask/strongly suggest to be referred. I pray you get better soon. 😁
Thanks so much for your reply, it is truly just so nice to hear other people have been through similar situations! I had the same problem - my md just kept trying different medications until finally I asked to be sent to someone different. Thanks for your encouragement. It’s good to know there’s still hope out there.
