I found this interesting as well Parvati, but did not fully understand it. I take one Zinc & Vit C tablet a day all through the winter, not sure if the article said taking tablets for it was not good or not as it said Zinc was good for lungs. Perhaps I am not reading it correctly as I only had a quick read.

Happy New Year to you

Love Sohara xx

Hi Sohara, they seem to be saying that zinc does not benefit the lungs if taken by mouth but can do so if delivered directly to the lungs. I think that there could be something in this. I have definitely found that sucking zinc when I started a cold broke up the dna of the virus in my throat and prevented it progressing to my chest. However, that was in the days before First Defense.

I absolutely LOVE 'First Defence' it really works for me, in fact if I have been anywhere where I could possibly have picked up a cold ( very crowded places or with someone coughing and sneezing) I take it anyway BEFORE any symptoms start

in reply to Sohara

Yes a brilliant all rounder. It sometimes makes my nose sore so I have been using nasal guard cold and flu blocker gel as a preventative. Seems to work ALL FINGERS CROSSED.

Ah haven't heard of the flu bocker gel. I'll give that a go. I have been using Nasalguard cold and flu block as a 'blocker' its hard to know if these blockers work, but it is so important to not get colds etc I use them 'just in case'

in reply to Sohara

I think that you have been using the same one. It seems work or it may be the 1600 iu Vit D3 that I take. Not had a coldsince starting it. Said again with all fingers crossed!

Hi Littlepom...yes the First Defense is harsh to use, so if I am just using it as a security spray, that is I have not actually got the symptoms of a cold, I use Boots own make that they brought out called 'Dual defense' which is so much kinder on the nostrils , I'm not convinced it is a strong as First defence , but boots own brand are often just as good . Give Dual Defense a try I think you'll like it , and it is definitely better than not using anything

in reply to Sohara

Oh yes I’ve got Duel Defence as well! The Boots pharmacist did explain to me though that it lacks one of the ingredients which make First Defense so effective. Probably the one which stings!

Ah thanks for that info, that's why I don't think it is as successful . So i'll keep up with my regime of using Dual Defence if its just that I've been in crowds etc. and use First defence if I've been near someone who has a cold sneezing, and if I myself get 'the first signs' I put up with the aggressive spray, as for us Brochs getting a cold is a definite chest infection which can take months to clear up ( well it always is for me)

What is "First Defense?" Is it a British only product? I am in U.S.. thank you.

Hmm,during this research they have ignored a major cause of mucus production in lungs and airways. Infections leading to the damage which is non cf bronchiectasis. This has nothing to do with genes as I am sure that you know Parvati. Neither is most COPD, which they rightly state is caused in many cases by cigarette smoke. We all know that A1A deficiency is a genetic condition which can hasten the progression of COPD so just maybe, if they looked at why, genetically, some heavy smokers avoid COPD , this could be helpful.
