The Phone Box.

I love these bright red boxes,

Which once where everywhere.

But now they've mostly disappeared,

And few folk seem to care.

The one that I did like the most,

Has long gone up to heaven

It's where I made a special call,

In nineteen fifty seven.

It didn't take much time to make

But it brought me so much joy.

I pushed the sprung door open.

And bawled out "It's a boy!"

(Sadly he died 2012)

Hello Don.

Another lovely poem, though I'm sorry about your boy. I hope you are keeping well. xx 🌿🌾

Mixed emotions there for you in that poem Don, and two old GPO icons together in that photo. Weren't the phone boxes in Hull painted green ....I don't know about their postboxes though?

Best wishes to you in the run up to 2018.

The Hull phone boxes were cream because the they were not BT but Municipality run. The postboxes being GPO were red. Some phone boxes in country settings were painted green to blend better with the surroundings.

Good one Don. Its funny the things that trigger memories, some good, some not so good. Not all good news on the Christmas mail this year for me, some tragic news from old friends. Life can be so hard sometimes.

Well that’s life isn’t it Lyd, good and bad along the way. Mostly the good memories are easier to recall than the bads ones. I had a shock when I met an old friend of mine over Christmas, just one year older but previously much fitter than me, who has wasted away with cancer. I doubt I will see him again but I will always remember him as fit and well.

A lovely poem tinged with tragedy dear Don,

on a lighter note, kids used to experiment by sticking some cardboard up the shute so when people tried for a refund with button B the coins didn't drop and little urchins would return for plunder,of course i wasn't one of those little rascals was i.... Skis the artful dodger x

Oh Don, how very sad. To lose your son at 55 years old? You must have been devastated. Take good care of yourself and Midge in 2018 :) x

It was a blow O2Trees , he never got over his mother dying a couple of years earlier and suffered a stroke. I have a daughter who lives two or three miles away with her two beagles, two cats and a rabbit. Animals play a big part in our lives. :-)

Oh Don how very nostalgic and then very sad. Memory is like a patchwork quilt isn`t it , light squares and dark squares. But keep on rhyming we love it ! Sheila xx

That's right, Sheila, and like the words of an old song 'You can't have one without the other'.
