Good evening!

โ€ข52 Replies

Sorry I didnโ€™t do my usual positive post ๐Ÿ˜ŠI had to rush at Dadโ€™s bedside, he has pneumonia and cardiac arrhythmia ๐Ÿ˜ข

So 7.30 am he phoned calling me for help.

What do they do in those nursing homes but cash in..๐Ÿ™ƒ

So drips and oxygen tank and a lot of patience and reassurance needed..he wanted to pull everything off..not an easy day..I wished they had hospitalised him..but theyโ€™d rather make me pay for extra night duty etc ๐Ÿคจ

Then his physiotherapist saw I was struggling to breathe and she gave me an essential oils chest and back massage! So that was nice..there is always somebody compassionate who reconciles with human nature..๐Ÿ˜‡

Snow on the tops..

Oh Fran! Itโ€™s not good when you know your dear dad is in a nursing home. Thank goodness you could get to be with him but these things take a toll on your own health.

I do wish your dad well and take good care of yourself too.

Lots of love and hugs. Xxx ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜

Thank you Carole ๐Ÿค—..canโ€™t be helped unfortunately..I think it gave them a scare because the manager came to see me while I was having lunch..I kicked up a fuss this morning, couldnโ€™t get through to anybody..I finally got through to reception and asked them to get the on-call doctor..

This afternoon SOS Oxygen arrived with a huge tank for a weekโ€™s worth, I had to sign for that too..so the doctor said they didnโ€™t want him to be more disoriented, thatโ€™s why they were handling it..and because he was fragile at his age..

Of course I donโ€™t want to cross the line and end up with Dad back home..but they are no fools..

Anyway Cโ€™est la vie!! Xx

No I know it canโ€™t be helped Fran and itโ€™s probably better for your dad.

Petes mum is in a dementia care nursing home and if we were called we would go.

Sometimes you do have to make a fuss. Just take care.

Love and hugs. Xxx ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’

Thank you Carole. Good to know I am not the only one facing these types of problems..sometimes you think is it me? Am I being unreasonable?

It was a little like when the doctor was talking about Mumโ€™s age, here he was preparing me to accept the inevitable, such as should something happen your father will be more comfortable in familiar surroundings..

Oh Fran Im so sorry you had to deal with all that today, but your dad is so lucky to have you look out for him. It makes me angry the way these care homes behave sometimes but it seems at least someone showed kindness when you were showing signs of distress.

I hope your father, and you both start to feel better very soon.

Beautiful mountains by the way...all the best xx

Dear Fran sorry to here your dad is so poorly. I hope he gets better quickly

I do wonder sometimes what care homes get paid for.

Dont forget to take care of your own health. X

in reply to hopetorun

Thank you Irene.๐Ÿ˜Š

The nurses and care assistants are lovely but there are not enough of them when a patient needs 24h care..

Dad is 88 with multiple health problems so it was quite hard to find a nice medicalised nursing home which wanted to take him. It took me nearly a year from the time he left hospital after a 2 month stay.

Finally I was recommended that residential home, which is attached to an hospital, an all-in-one, where they can easily wheel patients through from the residence when there is a problem.

I feel he is safe there and I have been able to relax a little more until another medical problem set in.

Bea has been driving me up and down yesterday with her shingles poor thing..

I had a good night after that essential oils massage though because I couldnโ€™t breathe yesterday, Dadโ€™s room was very stuffy and I had to wear a mask, which I couldnโ€™t really stand.

Anyway meditation time and breathing exercises before that cup of tea. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Have a good day Irene, thanks for thinking of me xx

Oh no Fran. I am so sorry your dad is poorly. How upsetting for the both of you. I know about nursing homes. I had six years experience with them here. ๐Ÿ˜‘ Please make sure you care for yourself too.

I am glad there was a kind soul to give you a lift. Isn't it funny how some angel comes out of nowhere at times.

Sending you a gentle hug.

Cas xx ๐ŸŒน

Nice of you Cas. Ah so you know how it goes..Difficult to take care of myself at the same time but I will have a break when itโ€™s over..

Take care of yourself too xx

I hope , Fran, that your dad is more settled today. I too went through a similar scenario with my father, his nursing home would send him to hospital when he contracted chest infections.

I wish I had thought of wearing a mask though, I was often told not to visit him because of the risk to my poorly lungs.

It's like having to walk a tight rope dealing with all the different agencies.

in reply to knitter

Thank you very much Knitter..

I couldnโ€™t really keep the mask on my nose and mouth for such a long day..I was gasping for air.it doesnโ€™t matter..I started nebulising this morning anyway..

Yes exactly walking on eggshells..

Dear Fran,

Hope your Dad gets better soon. So lovely to hear that there are people out there who help others to feel a little better. I went through trying times a couple of years ago looking after Mum and holding down a full time job, it takes it's toll on you, so look after yourself.

Irene

Fran it sounds like you are coping admirably. Your poor Dad must be so scared, hopefully he will now be feeling slightly better and more settled. Wearing a mask would make me struggle to breathe too and how lovely that someone took time to help you.

Fingers crossed for a better day all round.

I am very sori for what u are going thru with your Dad, I really dont like sum rest homes, for that very reason, I work as a Health Care Assistant for a Bureau so I am not based at just one place, I would rather work in the Hospitals than Resthomes, but not all resthomes are like that.... but I do sympathise with you... I also have Breathing probs....
