Hi Ian

Best ask the BLF helpline for precisions, it sounds technical.

They are all bronchodilators most of us have in one form or other.

Ask your GP or your pharmacist for explanations on meds.

You seem in good hands.

Take care x

Hi Ianmac,

The FEV1 test is how much air you can expel in a second. TLC is total lung capacity. RV is the amount of air left in the lungs after breathing normally. DLCO and KCO test how well your lungs diffuse oxygen and carbon dioxide into or out of the blood stream.

The FEV1/VC percentage of 61% suggests that you might have moderate COPD and that is why your consultant has recommended the medication you mentioned. It is meant to loosen up the alevoli/air sacs in the lung and make it easier for you to breathe. The tiotropium respimat inhaler is used as a maintenance inhaler to help prevent any further deterioration and help stop excaberations which can lead to further scar tissue on the lungs.

I hope this has helped. A lot of your statistics looked good, so I can only think it is the FEV1/VC percentage that he is concerned with. Do ask him/her, the next time you see them, as I never understood what they were talking about until a short time ago. No one even gave me any measurements or figures.
